Suggestions for my new map the dust

Hi

I’ve built the map The Dust and I need comments on this map. You can check it out on my server named: “10 mbit the dust alpha” or you can download it from http://utvikler.start.no/map/ running your own server.

Like evillair, I’m looking for:

  • Gameplay problems.
  • Team balancing issues.
  • Overall feel of the map.
  • Ideas for better gameplay possibilities.
  • Flow.
  • Suggestions.

The design not affecting the player will be improved when I’m happy with the tasks above.

how about some screens not everyone played CS

Everyone has played CS, if you haven’t you need to go play it.

This map will of course be compared to the original and in my opinion it falls quite short. I don’t really even think I like the idea of taking a map from another game (or using it as a strong influence).

We have too many weapons in ET - so it will never work like a counter-strike game. This map will ofcourse work best on Counter-strike witch it has been designed for.

This is my first map (I started learning mapping last Wednesday). I think it is a great way to learn mapping by building what others have built before.

I think that the Dust is a more intense map than the maps included in ET and it can be completed alot faster.

My next map will not be a counter-strike inspired map. But I want to finish this one first that I by the way think is fun to play.

Oh God please don’t start porting CS maps to ET. We already have enough of their ilk playing on the pub servers.

Exact copy of de_dust would be actually cool. Of course it would be only a fun map, but I’d love it :). I think that your version differs too much from the original.

played the map yeasterday on your server:

didn’t like it at all…

  • it doesn’t look like de_dust from cs… streets are too big in some points and too small on another parts…

  • weird textures all around the map…

  • weird lights (some areas too dark others too bright);

  • map is grey… lifeless…

  • on one of the barriers that the axis have to dynamite (the 2nd one i believe) i could get past it with prone :\

ET related:

  • no team only doors (actually… no doors…);

  • no health/ammo cabinets;

  • the command post is on a weird location imo… maybe the tunnel near the 1st barrier would be nicer;

all in all… although i don’t like CS, this de_dust “reconstruction” is lacking in many aspects imho…

Should post some pics. Yes, everyone’s played CS, but not everyone has played it within the last few years and can remember what Dust is :slight_smile: BTW doesn’t the author of Dust mind?
