Suggestions for good headsets for Dirty Bomb...

(Sorotia) #1

It was suggested that I post on the forums here for some possible suggestions for a good and affordable headset for DB…the last time I bought a headset was back when the small sling back over your ears was in full steam so it has been a long time.

If any of you have played games with me you may have noticed I tend to trip over mines a bit more than I should, I have the problem where I can’t play with the volume to high and it makes it really hard for me to hear mines well. I’ve turned off the music and stuff but still hard for me to hear.

Was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a good and affordable head set, preferably with a mic built in too if possible.

The only one worth recommending is the Kingston HyperX Cloud

I used a Corsair 1500 and it was absolutely amazing. If you can find a cheap one it is well worth the money. I’ll link one below for you to check it out. Only reason I don’t use it now is because of the numerous times I tripped over the wire an it inevitably snapped after it had enough of my clumsiness. Now using a Mad Catz F.R.E.Q but I have issues if I use the USB adapter where it cuts out audio for a few secs every now and then, however the 3.5mm plugs work fine.

i got a 20~€ one in a store near my home, i guess anything works just pay attention for your pc to have the right connection (USB or several jack like pink one green one or whatever) and you may want to have that thing making you able to hear where the sounds like footstep comes from. I dont remember how its called tho maybe stereo or surround something like that, apart from that i dont know if you need anything else

Never get the Turtle Beach x12. The sound and everything is alright, but it compresses your head, is extremely uncomfortable, and the cord tangles more than a slinky you’ve owned for less than 5 minutes before you decided to throw it down the stairs. Oddly, hanging a twisted x12 from the end of the usb wire to the actual headset over long heights or the top of stairs strangely fixes the tangles, as odd and unbelievable as that sounds. Just remember to lower it incrementally and not a sudden drop.

It would be kind of nice if some of you well established audiophile types could give a list of quality options ranging from lower cost options up to the higher ones (as opposed to high cost only). It wouldn’t be a bad idea to have an information thread like this on the forum that includes good options all around.

Usually there’s a trade off when it comes to headsets. Either the mic is really crappy but the headphones is really good or vice versa. I’ve been using my seinnheisers for awhile now and using a 10 dollar stick mic.

@Watsyurdeal

What about a cloud II? Found one on ebay which may be able to pick up for a nice price…

(King_Gibbon) #9

I must say I advise against Turtle Beach. I have had a Turtle Beach headset and the part that swivels the ear pieces actually snapped on both sides from nothing. I am clumsy, but this pair I had never dropped, tripped over or put any pressure on. I hadn’t had them long enough for anything bad to happen.

Yea that’ll do as well, it’s basically the exact same headset

Ah well then look no further than this

Hyper X Cloud and Cloud II got some mad coverage from PC gamer, worshipped for being just amazing.

If you wanted more expensive stuff then go Turtle Beach, Sennheiser, and the Steelseries V3 gets some good words from my friends.

But if you’re like me and you are a part of the earbud master race, just grab Apple earbuds (surprisingly good) or Sennheiser earbuds.

To be honest, this isn’t pro level CSGO, I would focus on your mouse first.

(Sorotia) #12

Well, not a huge fan of earbuds plus I’d like a new mic.

(Mrarauzz) #13

Don’t fall into gamer headsets. Like some of the people above me I recommend going for good headphones/earbuds and you can buy a nice 20 mic if you want

Game has awful directional audio and people high up or way below sound like they’re right next to you (Underground being the map where it’s easier to notice), I wouldn’t worry much about that.

(MarsRover) #15

Yeah, it’s maddening at times.

Defending on Underground, first objective gets blown up. I spawn on the lower level, pass the tunnel generator and run up towards the middle area. I hear footsteps but I automatically assume it’s on the upper level. But no, boom boom and I get killed by a Proxy that managed to sneak by and use the elevator.

(Amerika) #16

You’re right on Underground but in those situations positional audio doesn’t matter a whole lot. Literally everywhere else in DB I listen for gunshots, footsteps and pretty much anything else that tips me off to somebody being nearby. I don’t have too much of an issue with the positional audio in DB outside of trying to sift through the noise generated during some spammy times on servers but that’s not too much of an issue.

I personally use Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 250 ohm headphones with an FIIO E17 DAC. It’s hard to beat the sound quality and the comfort of that setup without dropping some serious cash.

(MTLMortis) #17

Funny you should mention that headset, I’m currently selling them (at my job) for $54.99

No you can’t buy from me.

I recommend anything from Logitech. I’ve been using a Logitech Comfort for a decade now, and it works great. Should be able to get something decent for $30-$50

So, this video just came out and it pretty much puts into very detailed words my experiences with non-gaming headphones and gaming headphones and why I prefer the former over the latter. In short, “gaming” equipment is mostly marketing and not about the end result. I’ve use tons of different headphones and none of the gamer specific ones have been any good in regards to the actual audio and the comfort level typically isn’t that great either.

(watsyurdeal) #19

Pretty much why I only recommend the Cloud, I actually had the pleasure of testing one out for my friend and it was very good for the price.

But if you want a damn good headset, a Beyerdynamic DT 990 or Audio Technica ATH900x will do, then get a mod mic muteless or a desktop mic like the Audio Technica AT2020

Also having a good amp for those 250 ohms headsets would really be nice, though I do not have one so I cannot recommend anything.

(Sorotia) #20

I ended up getting a cloud core, may have been a smidge more than I would have wanted to pay, but I was able to get it and a new mouse and come within my budget.
