It is unfortunate that this issue exists but there are simply too many players which do not supply their team with ammo in desperate situations, and as a solution I’ve devised a plan: doing it yourself. Taking ammo will be very simple, when behind a friendly merc who supplies ammo with packs(So Skyhammer and Arty) you can press F on their back to resupply one magazine for your primary weapon on a cooldown of 20 seconds. This is so that it doesn’t make dropping ammo packs obsolete as it does not supply you fully nor is it as beneficial to you experience wise(When grabbing it, the supply merc gets a quarter the experience they would if they had dropped you the ammo themselves.
This does NOT affect the target player’s support ability in any way(i.e. it will not reduce their ammo pack count or cause them to be on a cooldown, the cooldown stated previously is related to YOU, not them).
This feature will allow players who are in need of ammo but are not receiving any from their team to simply get it themselves with much less time and effort as it would take to locate and run to an ammo crate on the map, it’ll also penalize the supply merc in terms of the amount of experience they could have gotten for taking part in their role. The cooldown on taking ammo prevents players from becoming portable ammo stations and making every other method obsolete, and the limit of one magazine per forceful take means you’re not immediately resupplied to your fullest which makes these such mercs still required to drop down ammo packs(Whenever they feel compelled to do so in combat, sometimes you need to yell at them a little, do a bit of V-2-2’s and whatnot).
Let me know what you all think, should we be able to take ammo from our fire support mercs by force, or should they be penalized in some way for not supplying their team in combat another way?
