[Suggestion] Shooting recticle for automatic weapons

(groovyModel) #1

In Paladins by Hi Rez Studios the characters Victor, and Kinessa have this feature where they have a larger recticle for shooting their automatic rifles.

I find this mechanic really fun. And the sort of thing that I find makes Paladins popular.
Dirty Bombs share a lot more in common with Paladins (in terms of aim skill/pace of game), certainly moreso than DB does with games like cs go which use pin point accuracy.

here is the reticle:

in this I use Pip and Kinessa, since it does not show for viktor even though its the same size. Feel free to try it as viktor and aim off the target a little it will hit. As long as that same circle size is over the target. The hit confirm indicator reflects this as well.

You don’t notice it only because it does not show the recticle on victor. I would not show it in dirty bombs either and not only that it would do less damage on outer area.

I think this is something worth testing.

rifles have slower rates of fire so those fraction of a milimeter miss are pretty costly in this game. And it can be quite annoying versus say a proxy where seemingly spot on shots still do not hit because they are off by 1 pixel. Being 1 pixel off a super fast proxy deserves some kind of reward.

DB already has crosshair reticles and hitmarkers. I don’t see what you’re suggesting here. A different reticle shape similar to Paladins?

If so, I’m down for more reticle options.

(ChaoticElf) #3

Are you suggesting that the hitboxes should be enlarged relative to the character model? A miss is still a miss, that’s where good accuracy gets rewarded instead of getting a reward for being “close enough”.

[quote=“groovyModel;d-33757”] games like cs go which use pin point accuracy.

CSGO
Pinpoint accuracy
aiming at the ground to get body shot from spraying
SPRAYING AT THE GROUND
BECUZ MUH RECUIL WERKS DET WEY

im fucking triggered everytime someone mention CSGO is depending on accuracy.

(watsyurdeal) #5

As in the crosshair actually changes size based on spread?

(Nail) #6

he wants to hit anything inside the circle no matter where actual center is, like auto aim on consloles,

(Mr-Penguin) #7

Heh. That’s funny.

Paladins has huge hitboxes because it’s designed that way. DB isn’t.

(groovyModel) #8

I was thinking it would be just for close to medium distance. at long range it could stay as is.
I think the term reticle is whats used to describe the enlarged area to shoot with.

CS would be hard to hit if characters could move fast and headshots didn’t exist like in DB.

I’m also asking for some damage if you hit a character in the outter circumference of the circle. maybe from 25% to 50% less damage.

DB’s design is a cross between genres and I think it shares the qualities that call for a similar of type shooting mechanic, one modified appropriately for DB’s playstyle.

(groovyModel) #9

Its all about the tracking type of shooting more so than pre aim and counting on twitch tap firing.
the mechanic i’m suggesting pairs well with/was designed for tracking.

a miss is a miss, git gud

Maybe we can make thunder head’s hit box as big as EV, so we can fk all the thunder players up. LOL

(groovyModel) #12

That’s just stupid logic. Same logic can go in both extremes. You can make the game ridiculously hard too if you wanted to.
My suggestion fits within a skill based threshold.
Don’t knock something before you try it.
This game is all about splash damage/bombs etc shotguns and explosives.
This is a way to give autos some degree of “splash” damage to hold their own in said environment. While still feeling very much so like an automatic rifle. In fact I didn’t even notice it on Viktor until after close inspection.

@groovyModel DB depends on target tracking since the TTK is slightly bigger than CS and COD

it forces you to move your mouse instead of spraying and hope something hits
(if youre spraying in DB youre doing it wrong)

weapons like single shot rifle and revivr rifle are harder to use for tracking but despite the difficulties it rewards highly if you are skilled enough to shoot it and hits something.

in the other hand, Using weapons like m4 or timik or Blishlok is the golden standard of tracking in dirty bomb.

And it is stupid that can’t separate a joke and a serious comment. Besides, we did have his hit box issue before (not so sure if it changed)

(AlphaUT) #15

Here is the serious comment. Aim well, or move on to other games that you like, fit your style. Changing the basic element of the game now means that game isn’t as the game that we know about. And with that suggestion, pretty sure the snipers are going to fk the whole game up if we just change this.

You know long ago, there were some people who hate the movement in this game? What happen after their “suggestion”? Nothing. So I guess they moved on.

but if he had bullets the size of spaniels he wouldn’t miss as much

(bgyoshi) #17

This is why dot reticles are king. If you keep it in center mass, the spread is highly likely to hit something.

But yes, more reticle options would be awesome.

He’s kind of right though, sadly. Over the vast majority of games I play, if people aren’t playing medic or sniper, they’re playing a class with either a shotgun or an explosive, or both. Even the once dominant no-explosives-Kira is a rare sight.

For the record, I’m considering conc nades an explosive.

I’ve been seeing a lot of Kiras recently…
