Suggestion: Phoenix self revive

(Cesmode) #1

Hi,
The common opinion of any reddit, forum post, or review of Phoenix is that the self revive is horrible. People already know to knife/kill any person they gun down. With self revive taking a few seconds to kick off, you almost feel that it is useless.

However…

My suggestion: If you are able to get a self revive off either one of two things should happen:

  1. You revive with way more health than is currently granted(full?)
  2. You are invulnerable for ~1 - ~2 seconds similar to a regular revive.

Honestly, my one gripe about the self revive is not that people do what they normally do and finish me off. It is that I revive with an a$$-hair of health and one violent fart sends me back to the grave.

Um… both of those already happen.

(Ardez1) #3

You revive to full health… test it
I think you get the invul… not sure. Either it is already safe because you weren’t finished or you start shooting and immediately loose it usually.

You already revive with full HP and you can be gibbed during the revive, which not only stops it but invokes the 60 second cooldown.

And the self-revive isn’t supposed to be a guaranteed second life or it would be extremely overpowered.

Definitely would like a blunt of what you’re smoking.

The worst part of the Self-Revive In my opinion is that you can still be gibbed mid-animation for it, even after having finished the trigger so…

You ramp up the revive, finish the skill to the point he reanimates, then die in the middle of it and got your skill on cooldown :expressionless:

Yes, but that is for any revive. Phoenix just happens to have a cooldown on it. Maybe only half cooldown if you get gibbed after the skill is considered ‘activated’ but before you actually finish reviving?

or just make self-revive a little faster? Imo it doesn’t add much to the game and its frustrating to frantically barely finish the self-revive bar only to be gibbed anyways. Add the ‘nanites’ animation from the E3 trailer and everyone will know that once Phoenix starts getting up you better get ready for another fight.

Either that or the previous suggestion; I’m a bit against being able to gib during the revive animation but I can shrug it off. It’s the fact that my skill is now on cooldown for 1 minute that’s the more annoying part of it, the rest I can live with.

Maybe even both. The self-revive can be a bit quicker and give half of the cooldown if you get gibbed mid-animation, but it’s now visibly clear when the skill starts that he’s about to self-revive.

The window to gib during a self-revive that ate the CD is pretty short. I’ve played hours and hours of him over the last few weeks and I can count on one hand how many times I was gibbed during that window. And I can count on one finger where me getting that 60 second CD actually affected me during play.

So from my viewpoint I don’t care if it stays as is or gets changed. It will barely affect him.

I must have really bad luck then, or really bad timing xD - or probably both. I’m able to count it on two hands :<

Well, I also don’t try to finish my self-revive if I’m about to be gibbed out too. I consider that part of intelligent play. When eating bullets during a revive you know it’s possible that you could finish the revive only to be gibbed out. It’s your choice if you want to chance it or not.

(neverplayseriou) #13

It’s mostly the player playing phoenix making dumb moves, quite some phoenix players try to self revive in front of almost the entire enemy team.

Once that fails you’ll hear them screaming how hard phoenix sucks.

This might just be cause he’s on free rotation atm though :stuck_out_tongue:

(Dawnlazy) #14

For trolling purposes: kill Phoenix, immediately turn around and start shooting into distance as if there’s someone else you’re trying to kill, count to 3, then turn around and gib him. Rage ensues :stuck_out_tongue:

(VincentRJaeger) #15

I’m aware of that, yeah. I’ve just had the bad luck to take an in my opinion legit chance where the place seemed empty, only to have an enemy arrive -just- when I am almost finishing it : P

EDIT: Should point, it’s really only a pet peeve, otherwise I really love playing as Phoenix, suits my gameplay very nice and he has, frankly, taken over the role as go-to medic instead of Sawbonez : P

(Amerika) #16

I’m still trying to figure out who I come down on as my favorite choice. I really enjoy both Sawbonez and Phoenix. I feel that Sawbonez, for how I play, still works better. But Phoenix when used right is just so good with the burst healing and the ability to self-revive if you die on the right spot. And having the ability to choose between the Kek and Crotzni is great. Even the Hochfir isn’t a bad choice even if it won’t be the most popular.

(JJMAJR) #17

Honestly making the self-revive faster isn’t needed. If it gets faster then finishing off the Phoenix becomes much more of a pain, and the class would be much harder to deal with than any other medic, even Sparks.

I think of the self-revive as a way to punish players that don’t finish off the Phoenix or as a way to access shortcuts to bumrush people. I like that functionality on the Phoenix and don’t want to have players complain about the self-revive ability, so the self-revive shouldn’t have a revive speed boost.

I’d rather the Phoenix have an invulnerability period or cooldown acceleration if he dies mid-revive, than to have the Pheonix’s revive be faster. As a trade-off the Phoenix should have worse weaponry than Sawbones, and be more tanky, to be like a stone wall variant of a medic, to Sawbones’ glass cannon+ nature.

I’d like to see the nano-bots during his revive. His stand up animation is cool as hell.

All things considered, just don’t blow your SR when you know you’ll get rekt upon standing up.
