Suggestion: Make tweaks to "daily missions"

More often than I not I find that I am picking mercs for my squad and focusing on one role just to complete a daily mission and get the 500 or 750 credit bonus after a few games. While I do appreciate the small boost in incoming credits via this system, it also might encourage players to use mercs they dont want to use at the moment and/or fullfill roles that they don’t want to do at the moment.

Example: Ive been getting a lot of Secondary/Game Mode/Combat XP missions. First off, my friends and I have been noticing that it is increasingly difficult to sometimes complete a secondary objective depending on the map you are playing. And if you are on a map with secondary objectives, sometimes your contributions are not calculated. Besides the point…Ive wanted to do more support/heals lately with Aura. All Ive been getting is Secondary/Game Mode/Combat XP missions.

Sure I can kill with aura and wrack up a high score, maybe, but when I play Aura, I look for the heals and rezzes first. This play style doesn’t lend itself well to a good K/D ratio. So instead of playing the role I WANT to play, I stack up with Rhino/Fragger, Proxy, and Skyhammer/Kira. No room for Aura, my missions don’t involve support XP.

The point is: You’ll have a lot of people in matches that are playing the mercs that they are just because of their missions, rather than what they want to play or what the team actually needs at the given moment.

Suggestion: Allow us to select from a rotating list what three missions we want to complete. Or, do away with the system all together and up the credit reward slightly across the board. Stop encouraging me to play mercs and roles that I don’t want to play on any given night just to obtain credits(because outside of missions…credits slow to come by).

This keeps coming up and is likely going to get the same response as always. The way I see it the missions are there to try and encourage people to do things they might not otherwise. Some games I’m pretty sure if people didn’t have support XP and game mode XP missions, they’d just be sat camping corners and generally trying to make the game TDM.

None of the missions take all that long, and at most I generally have to swap out one of my mercs for the sake of missions. Sometimes I’ll play the merc, sometimes not, but I really don’t see that it’s a big issue. Missions aren’t credits you’re owed, they’re credits your earning - making it so people can just pick the easiest ones from the pool is a bad thing.

Someone else suggested the ability to cancel a mission and have it refill instantly a certain number of times per week - I’d prefer this over the ability to handpick missions.

The other side of your argument is that if players put mercs into their squad that they dont want because they need support XP, for example, they’ll just play that in the match to bang out that mission. If 3 or 4 people have support XP as a daily mission, you could end up with a few auras and sparks on your team and possibly no objective specialists, for example.

Or the missions could encourage people to play mercs/classes they are terribad at, thus bringing down the team as a whole.

I understand your point too, where without some encouragement people might fall into the TDM mentality. I get it. But theres a flipside to your argument as well.

I get that sometimes you get missions that you aren’t wild about and that aren’t conducive to the way you want to play the game. But the missions are completely 100 % optional AND they reset every 3 hours. You can play the game however you want, the missions don’t force you to play a certain way. They just offer an optional extra reward. I’m not saying that the mission system shouldn’t be tweaked, but your post misrepresents the current system. No one is forcing you to do anything, play the game however you want. The missions are an optional bonus that you can earn. You aren’t entitled to the reward credits or to only get missions that are exactly what you want.

I have limited playtime, so one thing that I’ve started doing is checking the missions I have in the morning before work, if I don’t like them I’ll cancel them and by the time I get home from work in the evening I have new missions that are hopefully better.

Wow, what planet you from?

That’s exactly why the missions are there, to encourage a different playstyle. You don’t actually have to play the person, only have them chilling in your squad.

And I wish pubs would be like that. Instead it’s about a million Phantom wannabe tryhards running around, thinking no one can see them.

And basically what Coconut said. It’s optional, and 3 hours is incredibly short for “daily” missions.
