Suggestion: Install to the HDD on the PS3

(pinksocking) #1

I don’t quite understand why this isn’t mandatory (or at least optional!) The game is roughly 5GB in size, I believe. That means it would take roughly five minutes to install to the PS3s HDD (10 minutes most)

There are no disadvantages for this what so ever! The texture pop-in would be greatly decreased and the load times would also be decreased. I know that X360 has this feature and it’s likely that the only reason that is because of the included feature of the X360 that allows players to install any game of their choice to the HDD. On the PS3 it’s a bit different. It’s the developers choice to allow players to install their game to the HDD. I believe it would help out the game immensely, especially in resolving the pesky texture pop-in issue. So… get it done SD!

oh, and /signed, tehehehe

I would be in favor of this. If it’ll improve gameplay even a little, it would be well worth it.

I was thinking about this the other day, surely textures loading up would be improved. Why wouldn’t they make the game installable onto the HD anyway, what would be the reasoning to restrict this?

(Oschino1907) #4

Yeah i would def prefer to install especially if it helps with loading and textures. At times i have very few problems with textures but other times i can stare at a wall or object for 10+ seconds and its still a pixelated blurred up mess.

Wouldn’t this be a sony suggestion?

(TheBIG_Lebowski) #6

YES this is something i was shocked to see wasnt available when you put in the disc. I think it too should be added.

(pinksocking) #7

What makes you say that?

(engiebenjy) #8

I thought this the first time I saw how slowly textures loaded - why not just install to the HD? that has to be faster than reading from the bluray - even if its just a little.

Bumping this for justice!

I actually started a topic for this in Tech, one guy actually and posted some info on it, it’s kind of interesting on what they do, but it doesn’t work lol. Still slowwwwww texture loading and some slow loading.

But I agree with this 100%, and i wish they made it mandatory, I have no problem waiting 5+ minutes for an istall, you gotta wait longer some times on PS3 and PC, so it doesn’t matter to me.

Ah very nice, thanks for the link.

Its a pity - seems like brink just doesnt work that well then (xbox also has issues with slow texture loads), I have slow texture loads after playing container city 10 times and not swapping discs or playing a different game.

I played 2 games without any gun or hand textures, didn’t look that great. It’s even uglier when you have the Eng Damage buff, looks like a weird orange glowing peice of plastic lol.
It’d be nice if they got rid of the orange glow for the Damage buff, and just added a symbol like Sprint, Metab, Kevlar, etc.

I want a HDD installation too! (Texture popping is annoying…)

(dazman76) #14

Wow, seriously? I occasionally buy games for my 360, and installation is the first thing I do with each one. Having limited exposure to the PS3, I’m quite surprised this isn’t available for all games. Even with the increased data transfer of a BD drive, reading large amounts of data from optical media still isn’t a good way to game  I’m even more surprised I guess, that if this IS a developer/publisher choice, that they don’t all simply choose to allow it.

(shovon) #15

The thing is, there has to be a good reason why they didn’t make this possible ie.[ul]
[li]it doesn’t improve things.[/li][li]Issues with getting permission from sony/paying licensing fees or something?[/li][/ul]

We won’t know till we get some answers, Badman please?

While I’m here, can I just put my name on the ’ can we have seperate’ sections for different users ie. Ps3, xbox, pc problems please?’ Petition. It makes a lot of sense and wouldn’t take a lot of time to implement.
