Suggestion: If user presses sprint, cancel the reload.

(SinDonor) #1

Currently, once a player is reloading, they cannot sprint until the reloading animation is completed. I suggest that the reload is cancelled if the user decides to sprint. This especially annoying when reloading the Assault’s 2nd guns. If the user decides to cancel the reload to sprint, they must still perform the entire reload once they’re done sprinting and then hit the reload key ® again.

This same feature occurs in other FPS games, like Battlefield 3.

Disregard this suggestion if the entire movement, strafing and sprinting actions are going to be redesigned, as per the request of quite a few players in the alpha test. This suggestion is only pertinent for the current design for player movement, and reload animations.

Definitely, I’ve been caught reloading many times and I’m franticly mashing the sprint key to make a hasty exit and getting nowhere fast. Another thing I like about Brink was that pressing fire also cancelled a reload and let you use the remainder of your clip. Since my RtCW days I’ve developed a nasty habit of reloading quite frequently, a bad habit a know but anything to ease the pain would be great.

Excellent additional point: Sprint or firing should cancel the reload animation. Thanks!

There should be ways to cancel a reload (for example by fire) but Brink’s “running-cancels-the-reload” I found the most annoying thing and the upgrade to prevent it to happen was always first on my list. I can’t count the number of times where I pressed sprint a microsecond to early and lost all the effort.

So the ability to cancel reloading = good idea, but by sprinting = no thank you. Or perhaps make reloading avilaible while sprinting?

Thanks for the feedback. I would still prefer that sprinting cancels a reload over not, as survival (aka running away when necessary) is more important than a messed up reload now and then, unless they do decide to let use reload while sprinting. That would work too.

YES!

I think a reload while sprinting, and firing cancelling reload would make all parties happy.
It’s not just us old ET lads this game is for, so i take it SD has to cater for all players past present and CoD…

And what about, if you run out of ammo (and keep the fire button pressed) the wepon automatically starts to reload. If you release and press the the fire button while reloading (and the gun is empty) you automatically switch to your sidearm. I don’t think having to press all those extra buttons to archieve this (as it is now) is necessary (but it should still be do-able.) And it’s not like pressing an aditional button on the keyboard is a skill thing, more of a habbit and a barrier for people not used to the habbit. Sure, it’s guiding the player a little bit, but not over in the extreme. And it guides inexperienced players to do the right thing.

Yes, sprinting needs to cancel the reload action. Or at least be able to reload whilst sprinting. I also approve the shooting whilst reloading idea.

It should at least be possible to sprint from crouching. Right now you have to “un-crouch”, then sprint, which is pretty annoying.

Ooh, make this into a new suggestion post/thread so it stands out better. I agree with your idea.

An interesting point on this (going by starting blocks in 100m track events) is you should actually get a speed boost from doing this rather than the other way round currently as IRL you would spring forward into a sprint, its odd that games never implement it like this - crouch then jump or jump/sprint to spring into a sprint. Would have to make sure this couldn’t be abused as a crazy bunny hop manoeuvre which could be rectified by adding a stamina bar.

Also another vote here for cancelling the reload on sprint.

Shooting to interrupt reload sounds good to me. Otherwise you might as well just swap weapons if you need to run away.

On a related note it’d be super awesome cool if whilst ironsight is toggled on holding down sprint would “zoom out”, then would automagically “zoom in” again on releasing sprint.

I think this is how it worked in ETQW, at least I’m so flipping used to it from somewhere that my life feels incomplete without it.

No thank you. Then I would have to leave scope before starting a sprint (if I don’t want it to zoom in again). And it’s NOT how it worked in ETQW. In that game you can run (normal speed) while scoped and sprinting cancels the scope (and nothing more happens when you stop your sprint.)

This has also been forever burned into my muscle memory, and it’s a habit that I’m not even close to breaking. It has cost me more than a few deaths in DB, that’s for sure, since it’s a habit to reload right away after ANY length of a firefight… and when I’m trying to run away / reload I just end up greatly decreasing my life expectancy.

Reloads in DB aren’t too bad, but they were so fast in RtCW and ET (especially full light weapons rank).
