Suggestion for Phantom (Sabotage Ability)

(kAndyREW) #1

Hey guys

So i went ahead and got phantom to test him out for a new video I’m making. After playing him for a bit, I’ve come to the conclusion that while his cloak IS pretty strong, I don’t think he is, overall, overpowered… In fact, I’m wondering how he will play out in the super competitive scene given that he has very little utility…which brings me to my suggestion…

I’m thinking in exchange for his cloak absorbing less damage or maybe lowering his base HP to 100/110… the devs give him some sort of utility ability… we’ll call it Sabotage

Sabotage: Hold F on an objective that you are defending for 4-5s to give it the “Compromised” status which makes it so that it will take the opposing team 30% longer to arm/disarm/repair the objective. For the offensive, make it so that it makes the objective 15-20% faster for your team to complete the objective. The tag will take 1.5-2s to complete for the offensive, and you can apply the “Compromised” status while someone else is already doing the objective to help speed things up.

thoughts?

His second ability is honestly the Katana, the way it works, from what I’ve seen, is drastically different from the other melee weapons. I say that and his cloak make for a pretty interesting character. Aside from that, if I had to make a few choices…

  1. I don’t get why Cloak is essentially a second health meter, I feel like damage reduction rather than full nullification would be more reasonable. 50% seems fair

  2. As far as his base health goes, defientely something between 90-110, but no more and no less

  3. There’s nothing wrong with him being able to use SMGs, if Sawbonez, a Medic, has access to them, it’s par for the course imo. Especially if his cloak changes drastically.

  4. I don’t get why the armor isn’t more like the invis watch in TF2, while it’s in use, Phantom shouldn’t be able to attack in exchange for being fully invisible. So he has to decloak in order to attack enemies, giving them an audio cue and fair time to figure out that he’s nearby. This would actually work better in this game since the guns handle fairly well, the fact he can use two of the most effective guns is pretty sweet.

  5. Leave the Katana alone, it’s fine

Sorry but don’t like it. or I find it rather pointless.
Sabotage on defense i.e. 30% slower would be bad simply because defenders reach the objective faster, making phantom mandatory for teams and 30% slower a given in every match. On offense i.e 20% faster is pointless pressing F on it makes you repair/defuse giving your a later arriving engineer an effective speed bonus, so in a way it is allready in. Besides Phantom has allready a very strong sabotage game going, cloak + hide + stabby stab the enemy engineer.

@Watsyurdeal the damage absorb isn’t really an issue. it has a starting delay so if your aim is ok, he is dead before he can use it. and it drains fairly fast when he moves. So far I had not a single situation where it didn’t break after a short 2-4 bullet burst. After that he becomes a weaker skyhammer who desperately tries to stab you.
Also along that line he will decloak with the first attack which is how some games handle cloacks and it works fine it gives him the right of the first hit. But if he calls it in a bad situation he will go down pretty quickly.

Last thing I don’t wanna see a HP/Speed change. His relative slow speed is what keeps him balanced, it makes him easier to evade (if he misjudges his slash, has a hard time closing the gap). He can’t be all over the map like aura and proxy. And most importantly it gives you more time spotting him.

good points… but what about a short range gadget that converts turrets and other deployables to your team?

Yeah I think his speed is fine, but will have to disagree on the HP, i think he should be 100. Or maybe instead keep the 120 but lower how much the cloak can tank (maybe down to 30 so vassili can headshot him)

Really have just seen gameplay and believe he should be smacked with a machine pistol/magnum combo or just sword/machine pistols as he did before if he can shrug off all that damage while invisible.

Sure it makes him more visible and it drains his armor but we’re really lacking the number one Anti-Phantom, Redeye and Vasilli players forget their sensors.

i wouldnt mind the tolen  I think he’s mostly OK, but just needs to be “smoothed” meaning… like taper off his melee damage, and bring up his utility

My idea for him is to knock the HP down to 100, then bump the shield up to compensate for the health , making him much more reliant on good use of his shield and stealth. After that, seeing as he’s technically a recon I think, Id give him the ability to “spot”/“tag” people that he holds his crosshair over for 1-2 seconds. This would change him into a more skill based Merc, very reliant on his shield for survivability and manoeuvrability. It would also mean he can get behind the enemy team, pick off the lower health targets and tag the chunkier ones for his team to take down.

Edit: I suppose he doesn’t really need the Kek either. Empire-9 would probably be solid enough .
