Suggestion/Discussion: Red Eye smoke

(Cesmode) #1

Hi,

Curious if anyone else feels the same…

When a teammate is playing Red Eye and pops smoke it is actually a hindrance for the team. I can see red dots running around through the smoke, but I can’t tell how far away, if they are behind light cover, if they are on a higher elevation than I am, if there a wall in my way. Its quite annoying whenever a Red Eye on my team uses smoke.

I know we want to keep some realism here, but gameplay wise is there a way to make the smoke a bit more teammate friendly or transparent for teammates so when a Red Eye is on my team, I dont cringe?

Anyone else feel the same?

You must never play CSGO. If I had a nickel for every time a teammate flashbanged or smoke naded and it got me killed, I’d be rich.

Not really that big of a deal I think. They usually drop it closer to friendlies than the enemies, so going around it is easy and for the enemies harder. If it’s a narrow hallway, just take some potshots and see if you accidentally hit something. If not, just walk through but still be ready

Played CS way back in the day, not CSGO…the original. Thinking about it though, and this is going back 10+ years so forgive me, but did it really blind teammates? I cant remember.

@Mercy Reminds me of a time someone flash-banged my entire team and when people complained to the idiot, he just said “but if we can’t see them, they can’t see us!”… I have never face-desked so hard in my life.

@Cesmode Yes, sadly the Red-Eye smoke is annoying as hell when someone on your own team uses it and actually messes things up for their own team… Thankfully, free Red-Eye fortnight will be over very soon :stuck_out_tongue: So we no longer have to worry about newbies doing such a thing XD

When I see people complaining about smoke ingame it’s usually from players that just don’t understand how to play around it and make the smoke work for them. There are bad times/places to smoke, but if you find yourself often running through smoke and dying immediately then there might be some issues on your end too.

Some points…

If you’re not familiar with the map layout on the other side of the smoke, be more careful. I see lots of people just shooting at the red dots through the smoke and hitting a wall or box because they don’t understand that the dot went behind cover. Then they rush through expecting to find a low hp enemy and get killed.

Smoke is not safe to stand in. If you try to hide in a redeye’s smoke and get blown up by fragger, that’s not on the redeye. He can stand in it because he can see what mercs are nearby and move out of the way if need be. As redeye I stand in my smoke just enough to make sure the other team is always nervous that I might be in there, basically forcing agro. (obj cover is fine, people are going to spam it anyway)

Watch spawn timers closely. A smoke at 5s is probably a lot safer to run through than a smoke at 15s. Depends where you are in relation to the spawn.

Stationary wall jump to peak over the smoke before you go in if possible.

Most importantly, being a whining asshole in chat and yelling at some redeye that tossed a bad smoke is not going to improve anything. He’s probably going to either ignore you, tell you to piss off, or at worst start griefing. No one cares about some random dude venting in the middle of a game.

These Redeye players are bad Redeye players. Good player will communicate with their team and ask if it’s OK to smoke or teall the team where enemies are eg: The game I just played with a super pro, team player Redeye that got a 32/7 K/D ratio while telling us perfectly where enemies were. It was damn epic.

I guess it would be easier if Smoke didn’t obstruct teammates but in his current state, Redeye is forced to be a good team communicator to be good.

I think the best way to use redeye smoke is to block the enemies view not your teamates. most redeyes i see just using their own smoke to stand in for cover while they fire, which i think is a waste and a hinderance to the rest of the team.

or just give it a “weed” effect. every one who enters the smoke gets high and pink elephants starts running all over your screen.

Even tho i understand its annoying when a team mates blinds you i dont think it should be made team friendly. game shouldnt be dumbed down just because some players are stupid.

I second this. It’s been my main source of smoking when I play RedEye. I’d rather throw my smoke at enemy routes or the enemyside within an angle that prevents them from seeing the team or force them to take another route.

Smoke’s a lot about the mindgames man!
