If a system like this is ever worked on (or is being worked on) I don’t think it would/should be aimed at limited editions only. Too much work for too little gain. The issue here is getting a loadout you don’t like, which is the case across the board with the loadout system. Secondary issue is that you want the cosmetic effect of the loadout, which again is an issue with the loadout system itself. Once you fix these two things you fix the problem for loadouts as a whole, not just for limited editions.
I’d imagine the best solution would be to allow some kind of re-roll of a loadout at the cost of credits. How much exactly should be based around the fact that you can buy a specific bronze loadout for 17k, you shouldn’t have to spend (on average) more than this by rerolls.
Cosmetic separation is something that would really help my desire to actually try and get skins in the game. As it stands, I just want the right loadout - what it looks like doesn’t matter. Something I think would work here is if each card’s skin became unlocked for your account when you acquired it. You would then be able to either “equip” the skin or apply it to a loadout card, either works.
Applying it to loadouts would need some attention in the respect that once trading eventually appears, any kind of skin unlock system would have to come with an account binding solution to stop skins being simply shared around. Some kind of equipment system would be preferable imo, since it would allow for mix/matching of merc and weapon skins.
