I’d like to invite Anim aka animal / Brandon from w:et. By far one of the best players from the NA area.
He can bring some strong feedback and a level of comp most people can’t.

I listed him a few pages back
. I think this thread is done though, which is why it got unstickied.
Splashdamage should invite some casual gamers. Those are the gamers that will make DB a succes. And I wonder what their opinion is about DB. Currently I think that this game will not appeal to the casual gamers.
What makes you say that? Is it purely because there is no match making in alpha or is it the game itself being too intensive? I really find DB to have much less of a wide separation between players than in previous titles as well as having much less expansive learning curves. A solid match making system however would greatly encourage the casual to take the time to learn the ins and outs of the game and hopefully be able to work their way into the veteran populace. If anything it’s objective based shooters themselves that force players to think outside the TDM parameters and the more focused aim shooting and fast movement that add a real challenge that the casual isn’t really used to. If these players weren’t thrown right into the fire with highly experienced folk, and instead given the chance to dominate other casuals I could see them being much more willing to invest the time to discover the game rather than going 1-50 right off the bat and uninstalling lol. That is usually what happens unfortunately.
A lot of the casual players in the office right now don’t enjoy the alpha and find it too hard. A lot of it is to do with the fact they have to play you lot

There are things we can do to help with this outside of the game balance, like you said, and we are discussing how to approach these regularly. It’s something we have to keep an eye on. Without a health game community there is very little chance for a strong competitive/hardcore community.
It’s my gut feeling, I can’t really explain it.
On this closed forum we only have people that enjoyed/played previous splashdamage games. We should have some players who have never played a splashdamage game and let them give their opinion about the game. Now this game is going to be “shaped by gamers” who play niche games and I’m scared that we will end up with a niche game, again.

They would probably get flamed every time they post feedback on the game by the entitled few who make comments like “I would just ignore the CS/COD/BF players and make the shooting and movement as it was in RTCW/W:ET”. I’d say let them in also but once all the core game mechanics are in place, there is still a lot that isn’t in the game yet. Be really good to hear from other gamers.

I have to admit I’ve taken a bit of a break to play some other stuff the past week or two. Doesn’t help when I join a game that the teams are usually one sided and I just don’t feel like playing on for multiple maps. Would be nice if there was even a hacked shuffle feature put in at some point during the Alpha, nobody should NEED to be playing with their friends or team mates right now.
I’d also take a small opportunity to say that perhaps some other modes for DB will be a solution to keeping a more hardcore OBJ mode while still appealing to a wider audience.
I personally invited a COD/CS player and he loves the game, and is very good at it. He is however a well-rounded gamer and highly competitive so he finds the game an interesting change of pace. As for the casual, I think that everyone regardless of their history likes “good games” and given the right circumstances I think every person can enjoy the ET style of game play.
I invited Tshaims Pont, this guy knows his FPS (pro Quake live) and is most familiar with SD games. He has a huge understanding of game mechanics and how it is actually implemented. Will be a nice addition to the Alpha community !
I can appreciate a good game but I can also walk away from many of them because they’re not my type of game. It’s an important distinction and one that needs more casual gamers participating to underline, IMO right now there is a very heavy competitive focus on the game that’s driving it in one direction and, to put words in Anti’s mouth, it’s showing through feedback from within SD.

Won’t be long until you have to setup one of those noob friendly servers then, with server MOTD like “no spawnrapes, no knifes, no selfkill, etc”
But yeah, being in the lower end of the skill ladder can be a bit hard, I’m one of them and sometimes just gotta ragequit in frustration. On the good side, casual players probably get more satisfaction when finally killing one of “those”, than they do by killing us… Everything is relative, and fighting harder players is also more challenging than the other way around - for a couple of rounds at least
