Strongest Mercs for competitive play?

(elatedStyle) #1

So I’m just wondering who the strongest Mercs are atm for competitive play becuase I am unsure of who I want to unlock next, and figured knowing who was strong for competitive would help.

Honestly, don’t pick and learn just a couple mercs. Learn as many as you can! When I play competitive I bring a medic, an engineer and an assault with me and I play each of them depending on what my team needs.

I would suggest filling in the gaps in your roster. If you only own a medic and assault, maybe try picking up a fire support or objective specialist(engineer)? No merc is stronger then the rest if your team doesn’t have anybody planting the C4 or reviving your teammates.

sawbonez is probably the safest choice as he is a backbone of any comp team

Well yes Ik no merc is inherently just better but some mercs are definitely more sought after for teams, like Sawbonez, over Aura yes Aura is good, but Sawbonez is just slightly better, and i dont really have the ability to buy mercs on a consistent basis, so I wanted to get the ones who are more sought after than others, ofc i plan on unlocking all merc at some time though, and ofc Im gonna play more than just 1 or 2 mercs

Oh, then if you want things teams look for:

Sawbonez, Fragger, Vasilli, Bushwhacker

Skyhammer, Sawbonez, Fragger, Bushwacker and Vassili are the ones most consistently seen in competitive play and they are kind of the backbone of the meta right now. However, the other mercs are used as well somewhat often like Arty and Nader and even Fletcher at times. Kira will most likely start getting some play soon and Rhino with Aura has even been seen in some situations.

With that said you can make pretty much anything work and the game is WAYYYYYY too young and the meta will most likely change a lot with each new merc release and as the game evolves.

I’d echo what Ardez said:

Learning as many Mercs is great. Not only will you find out what is better for your playstyle, but it will also let you understand how to fight against that merc.

Understand your enemy. Etc, etc.

That will be important as they add the rest of the mercs to the game. This current comp meta may change as a result.

Remember, a few mercs won’t make competitive easier. It’s all about teamwork and communication. Use TeamSpeak and find people to play with.

(Gi.Am) #9

Honestly discussions aside about who is OP and UP. Check out the mercs when they are in free rotation. Buy what you find interesting and get good with it. Bring them to Comp and make them work for your team. Don’t follow Metas for Metas sake.
Find a use for your Merc.

That said filling out your Roster, so that you have atleast one of every class and can use it if the situation absolutely calls for them is not a bad Idea (Engineers are propably the most important, firesupport and medic you already got covered but if you don’t like Aura and Skyhammer feel free to pick someone else).

(INF3RN0) #10

Most mercs can be used in comp viably depending on the player’s skill, however there are are preferred mercs which tend to offer the most consistency in all situations. The most played merc of each archetype are currently Fragger, Sawbonez, Skyhammer, Vasili, Bushwhacker.

“The merc most played” doesn’t necessarily impact the one single player. I’d second @Gi.Am . Best choice without having a static team woud be one of every kind. But if you can’t handle one, and me beeing in a spot not beeing able to play Aura the right way (not beeing to aggressive), a second one will be ok, though not always better for the team than an engineer or assault one.
But as long as you know how to play this merc, it’s much better than playing a merc you don’t like just… because…
