Strange terrain problems

(StormShadow) #1

Ok, everythign looks fine in the editor, but after i compile and fire up the map, i get the following:

Now, here is how that same area looks in the editor:

There is no problem that i can see. Ive tried re-exporting my terrain and recompiling, but no luck.

This is a slightly modified version of the terrain i used for stalin_beta, which worked fine. The only thing i did was reduce the subdivisions from 64x64 to 32x32.

I’ve seen several people have this problem before. It seems that if you have too many terrain triangles lying on the same plane, some of them get botched in this manner. Try adding some small variations to the height so that it breaks up that flat plane.

cool, it seems to have worked, thanks.

strange, i have a 6336x6336 map and i have no problems

What terrain editor u using, easygen?

(StormShadow) #5

yeah easygen with the latest wolf et template

It didnt do this with my last build at all… it just started doing it now. But now that ive added some unnecesarry humps n’ hills, it seems to be working fine.

if ur having terrain like that you wont really need terrain, just use manual brushes?

(StormShadow) #7

No, i need terrain
I dont want the level to be mostly flat, but certain areas i wanted to be relatively flat…

I’ve had the same problem. Then ydnar said that it looked like a problem thats caused when you use Easygens thin mesh feature. And not selecting that check box, made it work for me…

(StormShadow) #9

hmmm

too late i already fixed it the hard way

Ill make a note for the future tho

It seems like a random bug… but its quite annoying showing up on some terrain, but not on all…

However I would characterise it as a bug in q3map2, since everything is ok in the editor.
