strange shadows

(bettY) #1

I am getting some strange blockish shadows in my current map. These shadows are not coming from anything ive built.Seems to only happen at the higher areas.I am using the goldrush sky.I cannot figure out why they are showing up.

Screenshots? What are these shadows being cast onto? Terrain? Brushes with Phong on them?

In Radiant make sure nothing is filtered off, then search for caulk brushes you might have overlooked. Also, misc_models tend to cast shadows that get sort of deformed, search for any misc_models between light sources (such as the moon or the sun) and the brushes your shadows are being cast onto.

There was also a problem like this earlier that was solved by taking phong off the brushes the shadows were being cast onto.

Ran around in radient some more.Nothing hidden. No sign of anything that could be casting these shadows.

If you have terrain underneath those buildings that have been clipped, check the bottom most faces and make sure they are caulked and not textured with terrain

Oh… also, remember that you need to include the new lightmaps in the .pk3 file every time you compile it. Most of the time your lightmaps from an older version won’t work right with a newer version.

It seems to be brushes inside of other brushes in the second pic.

[ Does anyone have a good link explaining the need for the lightmaps ?(How does the system use them)

---- if they were included in the Ruins22.pk3 , the file would have been alot bigger. ]

The area in the second photo cleaned up after checking for textures underside of the terrain,as ifurita advised.First area still is not happy. It only will come up with the shadow if i use that paticular texture.thanks for the replys.Ill keep on messing
