Strafe-Fire support with a debuff twist

Strafe -fire support

“Dun da da dun da! Dun da da dun da! Dun da da Dun da!” - Strafe’s terrible rendition of Flight of the Valkyrie

Name: Jacob Sable
Nationality: Australian
Role: Fire support, debuffing enemies.

After a successful stint in the Australian airforce, Strafe and his best friend retired his parents’ cattle farm in the Australian outback. They continued to fly helicopters, aiding every year in his family’s, and neighbouring farms’ cattle drives.
While it was fun, and pretty steady money, Strafe longed for the thrill of combat once again. Therefore, when he found out about the rise of Merc Serv in the aftermath of the dirty bomb incident he and his wingman jumped at the opportunity to fight once again, and get filthy rich too!

ABILITIES
Strafing Run- Strafe throws a flare to call in a minigun strafing run from his wingman who is piloting a light military helicopter from around 10 metres in the air.
The minigun does exactly the same damage as rhino’s, but without the headshot modifier. If an enemy is hit by a bullet they receive a 3 second 10% reduction to their movement speed. This debuff stacks if they are hit more than once with the time until it wears off increasing by 3 seconds for each bullet which hits. The percentage does not increase.
The strafing run attacks parallel to the line of travel of the flare. It is called in when the flare hits the ground or a wall. Thus, the further you throw, the further the strafing run.
it would be on a cool-down of 15-20 seconds due to the low damage of the ability.
Ammo Packs- Exactly the same as Skyhammer’s and Arty’s

STATS
Health: 110
Movement speed: 410

WEAPONS
Primaries: M4-A1, BR-16, Stark AR
Secondaries: M9, DE.50, Selbstatd.40
Melee: Cricket bat, beckhill knife, Stiletto Stilnotto

AESTHETICS
I imagine strafe to look like a military helicopter pilot, but a little scruffier. He will have his khaki flight jumpsuit only over his legs, the arms will be tied around his waist much like Chell in portal 2.
He will be wearing a simple chest rig with flares (Which look like actual flares) attached to one side and magazine pouches on another . He will be wearing a black t-shirt underneath the rig and on the back of his belt will have two relatively flat pouches to represent his ammo packs. He will not have a backpack.
For headgear and accessories, he will have a Khaki Helicopter pilot’s helmet and have bare forearms with early 2000’s style tribal tattoos. His golves will look like the new CS GO ct gloves, but fingerless.
Below is a mix of photos of the various gear I wish him to have.

Sorry for large images, I didn’t know how to hide/show part of a post on the DB forums
Any suggestions, constructive criticism and questions are alway welcome below

so the mark does go from the place the player throw it to where the flare fall ? and does it deal dammage to ev ?

(Dysfnal) #3

So he’s got a pilot jumpsuit and a visible sleeve tattoo? You’re a wizard Harry!

Hmmm my thoughts on the ability… I don’t really like it, no idea why, it doesn’t seem OP necessarily, it just doesn’t seem that fun to use, but I haven’t used it so how would I know.

(fluorescentUrchin) #4

@Dysfnal It’s fair enough, I wanted something which was more spammable and anti infantry that would be able to provide more “support” to their team with a debuff rather than just straight up damage.

(fluorescentUrchin) #5

@agileBeetle It would do damage to the EV, but not much, equivilant to Molotovs or Rhino’s minigun. also yes, the mark would do as you say.

Unfortunately, this has all be discussed before. See Rain. Very similar.

I do like the athletics though. I while ago somebody did a similar thing for another Merc. It helps to have that visual aid, even if you can’t draw it. I wish more people would do this…

(fluorescentUrchin) #7

@Brycko I have seen rain, I thought this was different to what they were describing, but that was a while ago. Also, I know what you mean about the visual aid it helps when trying to see if the merc would fit dirty bomb’s aesthetics and I can’t draw to save my life so google images is the next best thing

(inscrutableShow) #8

I like this. It is pretty much the same as Rain, but I like the details more. Helicopter pilot from Australia or Chinese anime girl? I think pilot wins. A strafing run merc is another thing that really needs to happen, and I like the mechanics of Strafe better than that of Rain. The name needs work though, Strafe is kinda generic. Bushwhacker would be pretty lame of he was named “Turret.”

I actually had like idea for a fire support merc, with a helicopter strafing run.

Though I thought it could run in a cross pattern, to differentiate it from the other merc call ins.

(fluorescentUrchin) #10

@jubilantManatee OOOOOH that’s nice, i didn’t think of that… What i did was to make tactically trhowing the marker more important as the spread of the minigun would rwsult in it not doing that much damage.
@inscrutableShow Strafe was the best thing I could come up with, if you have any suggestions I would be happy to hear them. Shredder is quite nice I thought.

Shredder is good. Here’s a couple of my ideas:

  1. “Hail”

  2. “Chopper” Because a helicopter and you’d be chopped to pieces by all the bullets.

(Naonna) #12

assuming this ability is only a drive-by type of attack, similar to an airstrke: not sustained singular AOE damage/hailing bullets …cough rain cough … then I think it would be fine. The no-headshot-multiplier helps. I’m curious to see if damage-falloff would apply or not, of if it would be a set per-pellet damage. - Seems nice.

(fluorescentUrchin) #13

@Naonna yes it is a drive by, hence why throwing the marker results in as longer strafing run. I think that the damage fall off wouldn’t apply but the spread caused by the minigun being 10 metres away would. That is why when someone is hit they are debuffed, to make up for the poor damage per person.

@inscrutableShow chopper is nice, yeah that’s great.
