Strafe acceleration wonkyness.

So lets talk about the strafe in DB. I’ve been harping on this in pretty much every post I make. I didn’t see a specific thread devoted to the topic and that surprised me.

I’m not exactly sure what to call it. Strafe acceleration? Whatever is technically going on ruins the experience for me. I’m slightly baffled as to why this is even part of a game in 2013. I’ve never played an FPS game that’s strafe felt so wonky.

Like it or not, strafing is a huge part of aiming in FPS games. Dodging and aim go hand in hand. The current strafe mechanic makes it nearly impossible to properly aim and dodge with any level of precision for me. I don’t see how forcing this strafe acceleration on everyone is any different than forcing mouse acceleration on everyone. Why nerf aiming and dodging in a SHOOTER?

Not only does it ruin any hope to be confident with my aim, it also further makes the game feel clunky. The movement in DB already feels tremendously clunky and with this strafe acceleration, it makes the aiming and shooting feel clunky also. Granted the general movement has gotten much better with recent patches, (its at a playable level i’d say) but still way clunky.

If you are reading this and thinking WTF is this guy talking about, the strafe feels fine to me. Load up another game for a few minutes please. Load up CS, Quake or any other proven FPS game. Have a few 1v1 encounters where you are required to track your opponent. Now go back to DB and do the same. If DB doesn’t feel like pew pew, let me know because I must be missing something in life!

Completely agree that the “strafe acceleration” needs to be removed. I’ve mentioned this in several threads myself. I don’t understand why there is the need to include it and in makes strafing with or against the enemy a tough maneuver because if you are strafing back and forth there is a moment where you are a sitting duck.

I really can not imagine this implementation in any other game and this mechanic does nothing, but slow down the gameplay.

Heard that!!! It was noticeable to me on my first night of playing, almost feels like delays when switching directions and just in general does not feel right.

+1 completely agreed this strafe acceleration needs to be removed. movement has been improving but does still feel clunky. Also why is the backwards movement speed so slow?? It feels like I am big ol’ bad ass bob the cattle rustler and I am trying to back up an 18-wheeler. If I wanted to back up 18 wheelers I would go play that truck simulator that leestyle loves so much.

When I first joined the alpha, this was one of the first things that annoyed the crap out of me.
Cooled off since then, have adjusted to it. However would still appreciate it if the delay was removed completely.

Couldn’t agree more.

^same here

+1 to getting rid of the 18-wheeler back up simulator aspect of Dirty Bomb. Or, add the BEEP BEEP BEEP noise. Valdez can record what it sounds like when he’s back up that barrel ass of his.

+1 and stuff.

(Smooth) #10

Looking at this right now.

(ImageOmega) #11

Was something changed to the strafing recently? There used to be a slow down and stop when you switched directions, but now there’s just a sudden stop (without the slowdown).

Still, I feel like the movement could be snappier and faster. I don’t like the “acceleration” to a speed. If I elect to go a direction I want to be hitting the max speed my character can do instantly.

(Hundopercent) #12

Since your tag is Smooth should I have high expectations from you in this department?

(tokamak) #13

I don’t want the dancing from W:ET though. I don’t mind if the first strafe is instant but then I’d like to see the each subsequent strafe within the next seconds have slower acceleration to stop this weird tap-dance stuff.

(spookify) #14

Fluid! That is all.

(warbie) #15

+1 to the general consensus!

(Bangtastic) #16

+1 word in general, nothing clunky, but nice, smooth fluid round and direct

(.-COM-.PAIN) #17

Yes, please remove (oh, and the recoil too please)

(spookify) #18

I can handle the recoil but the spread drives me crazy and gives me headaches because my cross-hair is right on the guy and its down to luck! (Luck with help as I am tapping, crouching and doing my best to reduce the spread as well)
