stolen objectives

I have been trying to make a map for a while now. I can’t believe it is made so hard. No, I won’t ask you for weather, spawn points, expolsives and such because I can make them all.

Instead I would like to know how to make an objective that can be stolen. Everybody seems to be obsessed with objectives that need to be blown up. Not me. All I want is the allied team to go in, get their obj and go back home. Not so hard you would would think.

Maybe I am too old or have done the wrong things for too long but when did we stop to ship complicated software with decend manuals? I can’t believe Radiant come with a poor collection of outdated Quake3 manual pages plus some spartan remarks on RTCW features and ET.

I need a resource where things are explained, not just briefly mentioned by some grouchy programmer who is obviously too arrogant to imagine that others might not guess their way through his brilliant thoughts.

Hi!
Im sure there are community written tutorials out there, on objectives (capture the documents).
Check out the .map-file Goldrush and the .script, since there is capture objectives there.

… who is obviously too arrogant to imagine that others might not guess their way through his brilliant thoughts.

:eek2:
One of the “best” soldiers in WWII for the US (he is refered to in Grossman’s “On Killing”) once was asked why he did it (killed the enemy like flies). “They are hurting my friends”, was the reply.
Now, if you harrass the people who gave me radiant and ET, you are hitting my friends. Don’t do that.

Take a look here:

http://www.wolfensteinx.com/surface/tutorials.html

some excellent tutorials for level editing (including stealable objectives) - mostly for RTCW but they apply to ET too.

Let me know if I sound like an grouchy arrogant programmer

Well thanx to you (contributors). Of couse it is the furthest away from my mind to complain about the work that has been done by the creators of Radiant and ET and such. It is more about the work that has not been done. Because frankly making maps can be quite thrilling as I am sure you agree, and it is so fucking frustrating to sit and search tutorials day after day after day without much prograss. Radiant takes quite a while to compile, the map has to reload in ET and so on… so there is a point when you think “Why can’t they just tell me what I need to know?!”

I know a bunch of things - mapping might not be among them - and I tend to make the mistake of assuming everybody else should know what I know  So sometimes I get that feeling when I read through what should be a tutorial and is in fact only a list of entity properties I have never heard of.

So forgive me my impatience. And thanx for the links to the tutorials which are sure to help me. You will all see the result once my map will be released: “abw_wintersnipe” will be the name.

PS: I wish I could shoot those smiles to the left of this editor window
