Stolen nickname!

This is getting little bit annoying right now.

Doomkitty has stolen my nickname, it wouldnt really bother me unless using it on competive scene and now hes done it.

Hes on next proving grounds in Team Angel while using my name: http://steamcommunity.com/id/SmailaH_/

And this is me: http://steamcommunity.com/id/smailah and I was on latest OCB World Cup in team Finland 2.

Is there anything you could do about it? Or can we now just stole each others nicknames and participate competive tournaments?

Well, I have used name smailah since 2009, maybe even little bit earlier. I don’t really mind if somebody wants to use my nickname when playing some public or random games, but when we are talking about game, where I’m active in competive scene… and then somebody uses my name on competive tournaments… :smiley:

if the guy somehow fugs up and made you cost your repurtation, you will get scarred for life…

Just make sure to put a unique identifier in your steam profile.

Profile cloning was a huge issue in early TF2 trading. Fortunately my steam profile goes back 10+ years so I could duplicate my account info (hours played, total games on account, etc.) in my profile and nix any spoofer before the could do damage.

Hello,first of all i want to apologize to the guy,i never even saw him in game i never played with/against him.My second name is Smajlovic and my reallife nickname is smailah and im using that name since i started pc gaming,i messaged him and i told him the same,he didnt reply

I myself know there’s one guy with the same nickname than I use on the forums and Discord that runs around in the game. I do nothing about it, because I know it’s a coincidence and so far it’s fine. The guy just happens to have the same pseudo as I do, maybe since much sooner than I do. He’s not doing anything that would make me look bad, he’s just enjoing the game, so I see no reason to report.

When people say they encountered me in the game, I just tell them that it wasn’t me and that I use a very different name in game. Just try to make your friends aware that there’s someone with a similar nickname running around so they don’t get confused. Of course if you see that things gets too wierd, don’t hesitate about reporting to both SD and DBN, but for now let’s just promote a discussion.

His reply shouldn’t take too long I guess. Just wait for it. Timezones can be tricky. Maybe he’s just thinking about what and how he should reply as well. Anyway, I greatly encourage a dialogue between the two of you so you guys can sort this thing out. :slight_smile:

When I see the two profiles myself, I don’t see any real attempt to steal a nickname. Why ? Simply because the way the nicknames are written and the avatars are really different. If one really wanted to steal the other’s name for malicious purposes they would have gone as far as taking the same avatar and strictly the same nickname.

Let’s not scare people.

(when i was still @sweetcollumn ) by teamkilling, shouting slurs and trolling in game

so this is why im very sensitive with nickname stealing mr. @Eox
i just dont want anyone suffer the same fate as me.

They won’t. And if they ever do, they can report all that stuff to both SD and DBN. I am also here to help as well.

Like I said earlier, I don’t really mind if there somebody using my nickname by accident, but using it on competive gaming it might ruin my reputation. I rarely rage or whine or anything similar and this another smailah aka doomkitty is known rager/whiner. I’m sorry Doomkitty this is nothing personal, but I have even proofs that you have played against me couple of times in ranked games. I even send screenshots to dbnations admin and I have some more where we can see how toxic you can be, but I rather not use them because I have nothing against you personally.

Hmmm,i dont see any point commenting but i`m not the same person as i was before,no matter what happens,i aint changing my name,it means something to me from real life and i aint gonna participate in any db events anymore,if he was a person as hes showing he was he would talk to me straight and not make a post about it.

Yes, like talking directly to people who trolls you or whatsoever, would make any difference. And you allrdy said that, you won’t change your name and i’m not demanding that. I’m just saying that you shouldn’t use my nickname on Dirty Bomb’s competive scene.
