still surprised how this game turned out

Surprised that a game totalbiscuit and many other you tubers said was good… well besides angerjoe. but i dont see how this game turned into a low played f2p on steam… the game looks good, plays great. maybe it was the steam reviews or not enough PR on the game after it launched or the beta tab being slapped on like most f2p shooter? im generally interesting. if any of the mods or players can fyi me on this it would be nice… almost no hate or bull i want the truth here.

My friends and I played DB religiously for the better part of a year, carrying a lot of the games we played.

After a several month break from Dirty Bomb (because nothing was being done with the game…) My friends and I moved to Overwatch when it released.

I checked back in to see whats going on in the DB world…and I don’t see anything major since Aimee (which was when we were just about done with DB). No new mercs, have there been any new maps or modes? Anything new to do?

I’ve always said that the thing that is going to kill DB is its poor monetary model. Who really wants to spend money on RNG cases? Sure, you might get a few if you like the game enough. But there wasn’t much else to drop real $$ on. There are a lot of people like me that love to invest in the game they are enjoying especially if they find them selves still playing after two or three months. There was just nothing for me to spend money on. No cosmetics, nothing. Why buy a merc when it takes a few days or a 1-2 weeks to farm the credits playing casually. Loadout cards? Eh, you can get the same thing with a few hours of game play. Flashy red and black cards? Eh.

I really think the game could have done a lot better if we could have purchased skins and different looks for the mercs, their gear, and their weapons. With the additional revenue, SD could have put more into this game. The base of the game is phenomenal. But beyond that, theres nothing.

We moved to overwatch because it provides the same sort of constant heart pounding play (at times), with a plethora of play styles with the different heroes. With blizzards $$, Im sure they will invest a ton into that game to make it deeper. I don’t think SD can, and I think DB is going to just be that low played game you see on steam.

Its unfortunate, I really do enjoy DB.

meh, player amounts look fine; didn’t change much in the last 6 months.

Plus, the players that stay are likely to stay longer, as DB gamestyle is pretty unique.

There will be AT LEAST 2-3 healthy playerbase years

I’m kind of enjoying it lately tbh.

At least in AUS servers, we seem to be getting some real quality games.

Sure, you’ll get the occasional potato stomp, but the last couple of nights have been amazing, 11/12 out of 14 all being level 20+.

Good times.

Unfortunately, @Cesmode is 110% correct, the way this game makes money is awful, which will be the downfall of it sadly.

Let’s hope that SD / Nexon get their heads out of the sand and realise that they can make MORE money by adding quality cosmetics, that people can buy straight up.

Its a beta first of all and there are SO many game breaking bugs that I see why people left or dont want to play.
There are people who played the closed beta or the alpha and when they join a lobby that is not a min 10 or min 20 people just getting rekt by them and it is not fun. right? (I am looking at you daddy, stop joining a server that is not a min 20)

Think about it that you just started DB for the first time, you skipped the tutorial and now you joined an objective game on Chapel, In the enemy team there is a level 80 fragger. Now the enemys spawn camped your team but you think it is a part of the game mode.
Some guy says “lets push from the right side” so you all spawn and run there but a granade came from no where and killed your entire team…
You cant understand what just happened because there is no way that fragger had wall hacks right? he just looked at the timer and threw his grande at the right time because he played this game 1000+ more hours then the guy who just started his first minute in the game…

Your team lost and now you are a bit mad about the game. I say that 50% of the people stopped playing the game in that moment and 50% try to play another match. Those 50% will play untill level 10 or less and 10% of them will continue playing the game.

If Levelcup will return to play the game, will upload tutorials and bring his FRIENDS to play the game, it would be good. But it wont happen so yeah

the game isnt advertised because its in beta, it will have ads on release and that will probably help

and like szakalot said, the playstyle is unique, overwatch is the first “shooter” that i managed to enjoy, for example i coudnt switch back to tf2, it felt slow.

hey now im not saying i dont get the itch to play this in fact i took the 9 months away to play other shit since it was the time of the year when the big boys stuff hit… in a way your wrong steam charts show alot… but 2500 to 3000 a day is damn good.

steam charts can be easily misread. Gain/loss is about trends. Here is another way to look at it: player stats from october to now

The lack of new game changing content on top of a poor mismanagement between Ranked/Casual (Ranked is 5v5 FF on only, Casual is never 5v5 and never FF on) leads to stagnant game play.

In a year, SD has released a ton of balance patches, bug fixes, and many many many new characters. While the characters are nice, so much time has been spent balancing weapons that, at this point, game play isn’t really affected by weapon choice. And in all honesty, the new merc abilities haven’t changed casual game play much at all.

I personally would have preferred about half the new characters and none of the ‘events’ and instead have gone for new maps. Honestly, the lack of any new maps beyond Dome (which was released fast) for Objective/Stopwatch has damaged the replay-ability of the game. They could even have done like they did to Dome, and changed elements of the existing maps around to change the strategies used on those maps.

Full agreement about the poor monetary set up for the game, though, I haven’t spent money on an F2P in many years. I’m one of the few players that doesn’t care about customization and aesthetics, so I don’t buy skins or collectibles or anything, I just play the game. If anything, I would have definitely made purchasable skins, load-out card skins, and weapon skins. I also would have limited the amount of items you can store in your total inventory (cards, trinkets, cases, etc) and made purchasable inventory expansion. Maybe as a base you can hold 50 total combined cards/trinkets/etc and can buy 25 more slots for $5 or something.

well, its def. true that players are decreasing a bit, but thats only natural without advertising, and latest rages about crafting etc.

If casual MM works, imo that could bring a lot of people back, as the nr1 issue in teh game is match balance; and thats gonna improve drastically when you start putting people of similar levels together.

That’s way too many people, I’d rather stay in the basement.
