Still no dedicated servers?! Still no community features?!

Hi there!

Over at the SD forum members have been asking for dedicated servers. I asked here as well - about 18 Month back. Yet the topic was locked with the hint that:

Quoting a mod from this very forums: "We already have private matches in the game now, and thus this topic is no longer relevant/out-dated. As for a linux version, it has been confirmed multiple times that Dirty Bomb will be windows ONLY for the foreseeable future. Locking thread now.

http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/444/chance-to-have-dedicated-servers-linux-version#latest

My response is: “rolf lol wut?!” Sorry to put it this way… Then again… Not sorry… Do you even have an idea how hard it is to set up a running community without “homebase”. Hell I`d even rent a server just to have a place my clan could be trainig / inviting people / setting up matches our way.

Due to the priceless combination of stopping the Dirty Cups Servers and locking down 5 on 5 matchmaking for about 5 month we lost 2/3 of out members to other games, that DO NOT LACK important community features.

Right now you can`t even train appropriately as there is no chance to balance teams on the fly nor starting/restarting a map at a certain objective…

No wonder there are so few teams out there at the DB Nations Cups. People get bored of the Costumes for their heroes and still have no place to meet - either pub and have to fight the Shuffle rant of those players who do not get that stopwatch means “there and back again” or… Wait in the cue for a comp match forever…

Best regards

It’s just not going to happen. I’m pretty sure Nexon doesn’t run any games with community/private servers etc. It’s unfortunate, but it’s just the way it is.

The really sad thing is, that I belive you are right… Still I wond what happened to the Company that brought us ET / QWET / BRINK - and all had dedicated servers without you had to ask/beg, but as a completely natural feature. And far more games like TF2 that turned free to play absolutely have no problem allowing dedicated servers. If nexon - out of profit only (which I belive they are) - would rent those servers this would still be an option of making money.

its sad but that’s the only way i see us getting community servers.

@RazielWarmonic confirmed that they will come in the future. Nexon has no ETA on community servers. But I’ll say you exaggregate. There are many Online games which are successful without community-servers.
Also can you back up your claim that we “lost 2/3 of our playerbase to other games”?

Stats aside he is right about the player base Jost. Some of the decisions the dev’s have made in regards to ranked mode and competitive play are just killing the scene more than promoting it. The removing 5 man pre-mades was the biggest killer. I have many, many friends from Quake Live who quit the game when that update hit, and now they’ve moved on. They lost faith in the game and didn’t like the direction the game was taking, and tbh I agree with them. As much as I love this game and continue to support it, they were digging their own grave as far as competitive went, but I think they’re kind of moving in a positive direction now.

Now that 5 man pre-mades are back, my only pickle with ranked now is that they moved the Australian servers to Singapore, so while it is 4 times closer we do have worse pings due to permanent routing problems. Most of us ping better to USA than in our own region lol, so unfortunately there is little incentive for us to play on 200ms ping. It is playable, just, but it takes the fun away, and no one can really be bothered with that. Not a good move on their part.

Saying “we” I meant our clan  form 33 before the Dirty Cups Servers went down and the matchmaking 5 on 5 was paused…

As to the players in general: I guess there is a big fluctuation. They come, they play, some stay, others move on. This is comon nowadays - but I`d hope that dedicated servers would help in building some kind of “favourite watering hole” and thus help binding the community together…

If you joined the game in june 2015, I’ll just give you some elements.

There has been multiple comp oriented tourney organizers in the past. They all entered then withdrawn one by one. At least 3 of them successively since early alpha. And most of their crew were not from older ones.

When the game was under alpha state, we were pretty much 200 regular EU players. Mostly founders, and also some good bits of aware/lucky basterds fast fps vets who got alpha keys like I did. Out of those 200, I still see my clan friends who were already there (around 5), and around 40 regular guys we still see. The rest just disappeared. Some explained their move very clearly, with very specific issues raised, which mostly remained unheard or not in the expected way. And having no community server decisions as well as the slow straight game improvements (performance, bugs…) already took a significant toll on player base before the game even started on steam.

Well that’s a complete lie as SD already posted the actual numbers. Good on ya for making up a story though.

I guess it depends on what Dox means when saying “biggest”. Perhaps this was not the biggest killer in terms of absolute players…

For our Squads it was a huge step backwards thought, as people stopped/had to stop playing in their squads, started playing other stuff and left. Now 5 on 5 is back… with huge times in the cue. Real fun! Sop Most of the time we are pubbing around.

P.S.: You got a linkt ot that numerbs MTLMortis? I`d be interested.

Considering that it’s pretty much impossible to have a 5 premade ranked now, they actually killed the only community purpose-built aspect of this game.
Prior to the ranked rebuild, once you were at least in high gold tiers, you had pretty high chances to get a full premade against you/your premade. And I feel like all the players who did 5 man premade stopped since. Maybe even from playing the game.

The solo-duoqueue was tailor-made for cancerous sausages who can’t socialize. Guess what ? I feel like they’re the only ones still playing ranked now. So yes, numbers might be the same, but the audience is literally different. And I honestly don’t think this is the audience they should aim for in the first place if they want to see the game succeed on the long run.

Was the dev post/patch notes before the update where they explained exactly why 5-man was cut and was the least popular.
