Still no auto-balance in sight?

Yeah, gotta ask:
Is there a auto balance system (not the new matchmaking) in the works right now?

I took a break of about 2-3 weeks because of all those ****ing unbalanced matches, stomps and all the frustration that comes with them.
Now i come back to see if the new map is nice and all (it looks nice but its so confusing to play) and join an exe mission

Match is already 2:3, two lvl <10 in my team and 4 players in the other team, one of them lvl 43 and one lvl 53(both of them were playing very well)
it didnt take long, the last 4 rounds only took about 4 minutes, no chance at all (again)

I dont care when this kind of stuff happens from time to time but the amount of extremely unbalanced matches still seems quite high and exactly this circumstance was the reason why i paused playing a while ago.

I really like the game and enjoy balanced matches but its really frustrating when 8 out of 10 matches are pure stomps or unbalanced as hell while there is no chance for a shuffle. (everyone likes an easy win nowadays?)

No there’s no auto-balance in sight as you can’t balance a server browser based system with people being able to join and leave at will. You either suck it up and take your loss, leave the server and suck up your lost mission progress or wait for casual matchmaking which will fix balancing from the ground up. Everything else is only possible in fantasy dreamland and we’re not living there yet.

too bad

just leaving is a no go
i dont ragequit when the balance is gone again, i dont think its fair for the other players in my team who have to fight on with one gun less on their side

and well… you actually can with a script that counts the individual “ranking” (like a score based on how well you performed in your last 5 games) of each player and if needed shuffles/shifts appropriate players in the teams on half time

They do something similar over a longer period of games when they balance matches before the game starts. I personally would love to see an autobalance mid-game in terms of one team being outnumbered, but it likely won’t happen because of the dev time going into casual matchmaking.

It wont happen… only this fucking casual matchmaking.

What I’d like to see is initial balance at map start. I can’t tell you how many times I get into a match where the player levels are already unbalanced before the game even starts. If there could be a balance at map start I think that would solve half the problem. I can’t imagine even wanting team balances to be happening mid match. It gets frustrating enough when the shuffle vote goes through, I can’t imagine being switch from attacking to defending simply because a level 60 joined my team.
I think match start should be more balanced, but otherwise I don’t think there’s anything we can do that won’t piss off a bunch of people every match (myself included.)

(nokiII) #7

They already do that, but people leave and join the game if they feel they’re in the weaker team because they can and aren’t punished for it. It’s nothing you can change with our current system.

While I like Stopwatch and Objective to balanced, unbalanced Execution matches are fine for me because it helps doing the Execution missions faster. It doesn’t even matter which side you’re on. And according to many comments in this forum, missions seem to be the only reason to play Execution for quite a few players.

SD is bringing matchmaking in pretty soon, at least if they don’t f**k up again.

Auto-balance is universally hated in almost every game that has it. You are constantly shuffled around to the point where winning and losing has no meaning at all because it boils down to luck of the shuffle more than anything else. It’s a hated mechanic and I’m glad DB doesn’t have it. At least in regards to matches where there is score mismatches.

Now if one team is a few players up on another team I wouldn’t mind the system doing a warning for an auto-shuffle and then allowing people to switch and potentially even rewarding them with something like 50 credits extra. That would be fine. But since casual MM is in the works this is kind of a moot topic .

(LifeupOmega) #11

I’m not even going to write this up, I’d copy paste a response if I could find them. In short though, no, fuck auto balance, it ruins the point of winning or losing, you end up worrying more about being switched after carrying a team and then losing, it gets boring, fuck auto balance, people leave or spectate once switched.

Finally, fuck auto balance.

very effective way to approach balance is to cap the amount of players being able to spawn at any given moment. Say its 8v6; two players will not be able to spawn until two other players from their team of 8 are dead. First to die - first to spawn.

This way you preserve the 6v6 balance of the match, while also giving a strong incentive for any single player from the bigger team to switch.

[/quote] "I dont want to get stomped so I join “stomp: the game mode” where is the logic in this

Lately I’ve been playing a fair amount of balanced matches and have been enjoying the game a lot. Not sure how it happened. I do try to switch to the side getting stomped’s team whenever it’s terrible unbalanced/teamstacked.

Personally I enjoy the challenge and see it as a way of improving myself. I wish more people did the same instead of just immediately leaving.

This would be a great way to solve the issues. Keeps the teams as they are, encourages self balancing, yet tries its best to keep it fair player count wise.

Auto balance? Yuck no way thanks.

I don’t leave games, so why should I be punished if others do so?

That’s not fair at all.

I just take the loss. I’ve learnt / improved so much by being on the receiving end of a superior player’s weapon, others should try it.

With the MM coming soon, it’s a moot point anyway.

So, is “quick join” match making now?
