Steamworks on Brink/future PC games instead of GFWL

(Firespray) #1

I usually play on the PC and I noticed that Brink, while I am very excited about it, uses Games for Windows Live. Me and many other PC users do not feel as though GFWL is a good service to manage multiplayer games as it has shown that it is very poor when it comes to connectivity. Games for Windows Live really hinders the game. For example of a bad connectivity issue that me, and several of my friends experienced on Dawn of War 2. We were unable to join eachother and GFWL was the culprit as it requires certain ports to be open to operate to it’s full capability. Why bother the average user with having to try constantly to play with their friends? With Steamworks it routes everything through their servers and a lot of stress is relieved. While I would really like to say GFWL is a good service, it has many more hurdles to go through before it can be a reliable service and right now, Steamworks seems to be the best option to give the average user a easier time when playing the game.

Forgive me if this is the incorrect place for suggestions. This seemed the closest I could get to give suggestions about BRINK.

Brink does not use Games for Windows Live. It’s full of Steamworks, which I think will make you quite happy.

You haven’t really done your research. You should look up the difference between Games for Windows and Games for Windows Live

GFWL sucks.
but as soon as GWFL will become integral part of Windows Marketplace[&seamlesly similar as Xbos counterpart], its become essential marketplace/product delivery platform, like Steam.
wonder WHY Microsoft not integrate it from Vista times on ALL Windows editions[not most expensive ones].
also its good way to sell OS feats extension too[bringing more expensive editions options toward consumers, initially acquired/bought cheaper ones w/o reinstall].

Yeah, GFWL is pretty bad atm. They have a lot to learn from Steam.
And MS is just doing it wrong… Halo 1 and 2 came out on PC. Gears of War 1 came out on PC. Why aren’t they coming out with newer versions. The games would most likely do very well, atleast Halo Reach for example. Instead they are gonna bring Kinect to the PC.

  1. they think they could push Xbox into home environment and effectively cut PC’s in home usage.
  2. they think their [garbage-quality/caps]XNA SDK will “help” developers creat cross-plaform garbage.
  3. they forget key lesson about entertainment on windows importanty for soho market. and soho market domination for corporate market, ironically.

or explaining “shorter” is shizophrenic conflict between strategy AND tactics: strategy, rotating around Windows sales success endangered by Xbox division actions.
gamedev resources/teams cannibalisation by MS under own lable or EA/ZM/Atari front-ends toward “consoles” will effectively ruin Windows soho market. MS consider “its not a problem, but solution”, but few analysts unsure.

Soho??? Meaning what exactly?

Small Office/Home Office.

MS is losing it. They’re not getting in on the tablets. They’ve lost out on the phone market. They’d better keep their audiences captivated with their PC OS.

Microsoft’s flagship isn’t windows, it’s office

Love my Windows phone TBH

Yes! This is excellent news, well I have my friends to blame for false information. However thanks for the quick responses, I am indeed happy that it is using steamworks.

I guess, and .NET

Always preferred openoffice myself.

Say it in every thread but developers/publishers need to kick MS squarely and repeatedly in the nuts until they stop hijacking the GfW certification with GfWL. Gamer SHOULD NOT think the two are one in the same, if they do then the certification is a fail for everyone BUT MS.
