Steam server files corruption

(JLHack7) #1

I’m on a public library comp at a college campus that reloads a drive image every time it turns on
It’s not a big deal because, being a college campus, Steam downloads at 15 MB/s

Tried today but the files on the Steam server have something corrupted, and it gets the corrupted chunk bug where a game downloads to 99% and then just dies, unable to move forward.

Tried these Steam servers, but still no go:
Seattle, Vancouver, Sweden, Japan.
Will try more since there’s nothing I can do.

tried more steam servers
Israel
France - Marseille
Canada - Ottowa
Austrailia - NSW
Belgium
Central America

None of them work.
Seems like every Steam server has a few corrupted files in their Dirty Bomb downloads

Obvious advice: Have you tried reinstalling DB? And where are you from exactly? I’ve never heard of a multi national Steam server corruption.

(JLHack7) #4

It’s still doing it, and these comps reformat/reload from a Deep Freeze image every time they turn on. I restarted yesterday when I was experiencing it at first, and they restarted this morning, and it’s still doing it.

(JLHack7) #5

I’m from Idaho, and I’ve logged over a hundred hours in this game, all from these comps.
It’s only yesterday that I ever experienced the bug.

I had thought there was an update or something that would have caused the files to break, and I was right

They updated the game, and now there’s a requirement of a Visual Studio 2013 Redistributable (previously it was just 2005, 2008, and 2010), in both 32 bit and 64 bit.
That’s an additional 2 installers you have to sit through.

That puts the number of prerequisites Steam makes you install for Dirty Bomb at 10 (previously it was 8)

Now I’m just right out of my mind, there’s prerequisites to playingDB? I never needed to install anything prior to playing the game, and I have no clue about the server issues.

Can you tell me your specs?

Also, there’s a gear symbol near your comment. Clicking it will allow you to add and edit your comments. It’s common courtesy to merge comments whenever possible.

Thanks.

Sorry about the post merging thing, I’ll try that next time.

Comp restarted in the morning today, so I tried a different tactic this time.

Tried downloading the entire thing from Canada - Calgary (the closest Canadian server to Idaho)
Still no luck, download continues to fail upon reaching 99%.

I love college campuses so much, this is what Dirty Bomb downloaded at:

7.3 MB/s? I got a new ISP which is considered to be the most reliable in my country, and it barely hits 5MB/s, occasionally 10. The unis, well you’d be blessed to even have WiFi here.

This problem is still continuing, there’s definitely a corrupted chunk on the Dirty Bomb installs of EVERY Steam server, and no one has noticed.

It downloads to 99% and stops, unable to move forward, and this ONLY happens with Dirty Bomb.

I downloaded Payday 2 through Steam (which is an 18 GB download of heavy compression that extracts to a 36 GB game) without interruption, and played it a whole bunch. I had it back in 2014 before they switched to a bullshit Microtransaction system.

Alright, if what you’re reporting is true, it might warrant doing this…

May you be noble and wise,
And save our software from demise!

I have been watching this thread and searching for a solution but unfortunately I didn’t find anything useful.
It doesn’t seem like anybody else has this issue either.

An attempt I would make is to reinstall Steam while keeping your games and screenshots of course.

First of all, are you running DB on a portable drive?

If you are, and you’re plugging in your drive to different computers, then runtime configurations will always change and you should be prepared for that.

To all “Reinstall Steam” replies:

These computers REFORMAT from a Norton Deep Freeze Image, every time they turn on, so not only do they reinstall Steam every morning, they reinstall damn near the entire OS, wiping all the data.

I’m still having this problem, and it ONLY ever happens with Dirty Bomb, all my other Steam games download AND run perfectly, and I have to redownload them all every day.

No, I’m not running off a portable image, I’m redownloading the latest Steam by going to store.steampowered.com and going to “Install Steam” which downloads the latest steam client automatically.

I’ve spent a good 150 hours on this game from these computers, this problem is only started happening within the last week, and ONLY with Dirty Bomb.

Whatever files were f*cked, the Obsidian Operator Skins update appears to have fixed them. Game downloads normally and runs perfectly now.
