Steam Reviews

Something needs to be done here… These reviews are all very old and simply incorrect. They’re scaring away a good deal of possible players by being presented as the “most helpful” on Steam and the first reviews someone will see while looking at the game. I noticed this the other day and it’s not helping Dirty Bomb gain more players. These reviews consist of accusations of Dirty Bomb being infested with hackers/pay to win. Both of those claims are wrong. While DB does have some hackers on occasion (not common at all), and may appear at first glance to be pay-to-win, it just isn’t.

I know Nexon/Splash Damage probably can’t do a damn thing to remove these reviews, but I was just curious, what’s everyone’s opinion on this?

Steam reviews… ahahahahaha… sorry… yeah, steam revieahahahaaha…
Yeah… I can’t take them seriously. I mean in general Steam reviews, hahahaa, are pretty much a joke.

I feel that most people know that Steam reviews aren’t the most trustworthy.

Steam users aren’t dumb for the most time. And most people just ignore reviews about hackers/anti-cheat and “omgeh, they banned me for nothing”.

(Backuplight) #5

I swear I didn’t do anything! I don’t even know how to cheat! My brother used my account once… maybe he did something?? Plx unban I cri errytime.

I think they might not be wrong. The problem lies in the date of the review. Dirty Bomb is still in Beta and the game changed drastically since then. A lot of the problems then have been addressed. Those who do not like the game most likely gave up and thus they will have no motivation to go back and change the review. I mean who actually goes back to update reviews unless it is a fan.

Well yeah, what I meant is that the reviews are just wrong at the current time. When they were posted they probably weren’t, but it’s been a long time since then.

Don’t know about this. I feel like yeah, there’s people who know they’re not trustworthy, but there’s tons of people who may not be completely interested in a game and rely on a quick look at the Steam Reviews to see if the game’s even worth the download.

I’ve found that with free games especially, the reviews are almost always accurate. Personally, I always look at the newest reviews for games to see if problems have been fixed.

I just wanted to show this to everyone because this could easily, and probably does, turn off a lot of potential players. :frowning:

I don’t really care about the reviews if the game is still a mostly positive or mixed. It only really matters if the game gets a negative rating.

I think the reviews are unfair toward the game, and I think they are negatively impacting the population.

Most of them are still complaints about Phantom, or complaints about class balance. Every merc seems to be the favorite of some player, so while the balance may not be perfect it is still fairly balanced in terms of mercs.

Hackers are also a major concern in the reviews, but apparently that has been somewhat fixed (?). In my 40 hours I have never come across an obvious hacker and I know what to look for.

The top-rated review is from a hacker who claims he wasn’t hacking. That just goes to show you how bad the reviews are.

One of the top reviews claims it’s too grindy which makes it boring. I don’t see how playing a multiplayer FPS is a valid complaint. It’s only “grindy” if you don’t enjoy playing.

The one valid concern I noted was that many of the games aren’t close, and I think we all have noticed the game does suffer from balance issues.

i dont know if theres anyway to do it unless people flag them i think or the devs do it themselves but with the whole devs hushing critics it would hurt there name if they did that .

Says all.
I mean, sure, there are some idiots. But people won’t drop the game because of some reviews if they see DB has much more positive feedback.

(ZeSpecter) #12

On the opposite, the reviews are technically what made me install and try Dirty Bomb (well youtube too), because it has positive reviews for the most part. f2p online games are generally not treated well on steam though, they get overwhelmingly bad reviews, but most of Dirty Bomb’s reviews are pretty good

Beta lol. Once a game sells me stuff, it aint beta.

You might believe this but it’s actually not how it works. I work in software R&D for a living and we constantly sell customers beta software as early adopters when we have a solution they really want and are willing to allow it to develop and get the option to help shape what feature we add or what we work on first. They pay for it and our stuff is definitely beta.

Many games, especially ones by small teams (which SD qualifies as), have a shop to sell things to help keep the lights on. There is nothing wrong with that as long as the devs are pretty transparent and for the most part SD is. Or more than most game devs. DB still doesn’t have all the features built into the game yet for a full release and it hasn’t went through polishing in regards to the game/game files/code freeze for bug fixing only yet. They are just sort of developing on the fly and hoping not to break anything. Which is common for beta products.

As far as the Steam reviews go all you have to do is start reading the negative ones and all you get are the “omg cheaters everywhere”, “game doesn’t run” and “it’s pay2win because my friend said so”. I think the reviews on Steam are actually pretty good for a F2P title on Steam.

(srswizard) #15

If I had only started playing when the cheater problem was at it’s worst, I would had probably RQ too, and gave a negative review for that.
That said, there are other very legitimate reasons to give DB a negative review, such as ignoring major bugs, that have a big impact on the core elements of the game, and the incredibly slow pace of the development of the game.

(Scav) #16

TB put it in his Top games of 2015. On the 3rd place. No stim review can down that!

(SereneFlight) #17

Well… at least “the most helpful” reviews are due stupidity instead of people being childish like what happened in KF2 when they introduced CS:GO style microtransactions… every “helpful” review was “omg this game haz microtransactions”… and the whole thing was organized as well.

Anyways, what the community could do is to down vote all those ridiculous reviews and up vote reasonable reviews.

(darlingClaymore) #18

I don’t mean that omg it sells its not beta. I just mean, if a game sells stuff and its “beta” its just a false title to have a excuse for bugs etc. If you can sell me stuff you can sure as hell fix stuff.
