Steam Marketplace

Very simple question,

I’m sure as the marketplace is introduced the main focus will be to create a sustainable in-game economy, which I expect will primarily be fed by weapon skins. I’d like to know and see what others think about marketable / trade-able (whenever that comes around) loadout cards. Along with this, how would it fare between SE cards and regular lead-cobalt cards.

I myself would be considerably disappointed if market and trading was introduced and I wasn’t able to exchange the abundance of unused cards I’ve accumulated with time for other cards I’d much more enjoy using.

I’m sure that this kind of marketplace support won’t be applied any time soon, because at first DB has to further develop their economy, in other words before they can add marketplace-support for cases or even loadout cards, in which the players trade with each other without them making profit from it directly, they’ll have to develop purchasablesfurther and work on how they could apply this sort of thing with (now) weapon skin cases and LC-cases.
Speaking of which, in the latest developer-video, I think it was, Shoe talked about how they’d add/handle marketplace-support on Steam specifically of course, now with the Weapon Skin Cases.

I understand why they’d feel that a market based upon weapon skins and cases is what they should focus on, it is what’s helped contribute to numerous other titles on steam, but players have wanted trading for as long as I’ve played. I don’t think people wanted trading / market just for the idea of “We’ve got the market and trading”. I’d very much prefer being able to swap and trade loadouts with people, which is what I’m sure many would like, than to just have an economy of cases standing on the market as stilts

Yeah, I know what you mean and I totally agree, but I think it’s just not possible yet - with all the other problems/bugs to be fixed as well as future problems which are already worked on. But I suppose we can expect something of that sort in the near future. Maybe next year, we’ll just have to wait a bit more. I’d like to be able to trade and swap loadouts too and I hope that they will find a good way to make trading available to all of the community, so I’d of course support that.

Once you’ve put in place the mechanics for putting weapon cases on the market (hooks from your DB inventory to the Steam Market, etc.), it can’t be very difficult to expend that to other items. I think it’s more a question of SD wanting to see how this goes one step at a time so they can tweak things as they expand on the feature.

Also, unless I completely missed the boat, there is a “tax” on all transactions made through the Steam Market, part of which goes to Valve and another to the game publisher. So SD would be making money from market trades. What they have to figure is: would these small amounts on a lot of player-to-player transactions offset the potential reduction in sales elsewhere (as you can expect less people buying cases for money if they can find what they want on the market).

I agree, btw in terms of this, what you called “tax” - I thought as much, but I wasn’t quite sure, but as you say less people will actually buy cases directly from the game, if they can get what they want on the Marketplace

So they’ll have to work on that and find a way to handle their “marketplace-policy” over time to bring that in next year.

pretty sure only unopened cases will be marketable, can’t take all the RNG away :stuck_out_tongue:

You still need to buy a key to open the case, and this is where the real money comes from.

True, forgot 'bout that.
