why are you so afraid of non-gameplay affecting stats-tracking? We already have that for ET, good old Splatter Ladder
And? Did ETs gameplay degrade a lot during the last year or so where it existed? I dont think so, so stop your paranoia
Because if there are no rewards behind stats rather than, well, only the stats really, than there’s no need to farm them. Besides, how do you ‘farm’ hit percentage? Or won rounds? Or successfull objective destructions? Or revived teammates? And anyway, I think I would be glad if ppl would start farming those, finally CovOps who use their stachel to blow up objectives instead of sniping, because they’ll need to ‘farm’ some more destruction-XP
So, from my part, hurray for persistent stats, as long as they dont affect gameplay
By not finishing fallen opponents. Stay away from Mg42, even if tactically desirable. By using flamethrower (easy to have more than 100 percent), not that anyone tries. By not using naturally incaccurate weapons like unscoped K43, Fg42, unscoped Garand. By being 5th sniper on your team; never use unscoped weapons.
Or won rounds?
callvote map restart;say F1;say F1;say F1;say F1;say F1;say F1;Kick anyone who plants dynamites at objectives.
Leave losing team before end of match. Switch teams. Join team which has 2x more experience than the other. Always vote NO on exp shuffle.
Or successfull objective destructions?
Take covert op and only go for easy objectives like command post. Blow up pointless stuff like some stationary MGs Splash Damage must have placed while on crack. Play Axis Covert Op on battery.
As engineer, go for truck barriers before tank is stolen, a lot. Build/destroy bridge after the gate is blown on Fuel Dump.
Or revived teammates?
Let your teammates die. Never distribute health packs, only use needles (to keep your teammates at low health). Revive obviously lame/very lagged players who are too stupid to run away. (running with flamethrower/mg42 is usually a sign of newbie). Repeatedly revive people with no ammo (you can hear them using pistol). Never use your higher health+regen to act as meatshield/distraction - as I said above, let your teammates die.
B0rsuk, most of that can either be countered pretty easily (as in ET you’ll naturally get hit percentages per weapon, so everybody will see that your 200% acc is from a flamethrower and not a SMG, destroying a MG will ofc. earn you far less XP than the actual map ovjective etc), or isn’t something anybody would bother with… for nothing in return! Because thats the whole point, you get nothing from your stats, no unlocks or such.
But, on the other side, you will probably have your ingame-name assigned to those stats, so if you behave like an ass just to farm some useless stats, words about you will spread quickly, achieving the opposite of what you intedned to do in the first place (gaining fame)
Officially sanctioned stats generated by the game company will most likely attract quite a bit more attention than community based ones.
Because if there are no rewards behind stats rather than, well, only the stats really, than there’s no need to farm them.
But history has shown that people still do. It DOES affect gameplay, because people are jerking around trying to get the l33t awards, rather than actually playing the game. For example, in BF2 theres all kinds of ribbons and medals that you can get, which have no affect on the unlocks, but people still go around trying to get their 27 knife kills in a round or whatever. Even RTCW had point whores who would diffuse one players dynamite just to plant their own.
I don’t see this as a huge deal mind you. Most of those people whose gameplay will be affected by this would probably be jackasses anyway. In my experience, every kind of stat promotes stat whoring.
Besides, how do you ‘farm’ hit percentage? Or won rounds? Or successfull objective destructions? Or revived teammates?
IMO, it really depends on what they track. They should track, for example: Items Constructed, Teamates Healed, Deployables Destroyed, Deployables Built, Rounds won, Objective completions, and of Course Kills/Deaths. That wouldnt be too bad.
Well the problem I see are stat whiners. You already have some people whining when they get killed a lot (they even switch to spec and then back to get a better k/d ratio), even without persistent statistics. And now imagine those guys with persistent stats, all they do would be worrying about their stats, they would whine around and lame around to keep their 1337 stats.
K/D is utter rubish, as it still depends on your foes.
So long as it’s no personal stat (only depending on your own skill), K/D should not be added.
Of course, all stats are biased since you could have 2 engineers running around, where the same one is allways the lucky one to survive and construct things.
