State of Play, Inc.: Progression Re-Revisited
… People will start to play Objectives and maps will be over in 3 minutes… People will get steamrolled and rage quit… We saw a ton of this on 12/17 or the last day… People switched servers 3 times to get away from either stacked teams or certain players…

5v5 Match Play goes live and you see stacked teams what are you going to do /quit?
What is going to happen when a team gets rolled first stage and 1 or 2 people /quit?

SD and Nexon need a penalty that will make people not /quit…
You Sir, are correct, unless Santa brings us some big changes. I think my personal bests (although I really should say team bests of course) are about 3m:45s on Terminal for attack (just can’t seem to break the 1:10 barrier for first stage :frowning: ), and about the same on Trainyard before the addition of the last stage.

Having said that, I feel relatively confident that both maps could be full held with a half decent team sticking to defensive tactics. That being the case, games or matches can swing massively either way, depending how teams decide to play. The worry with that, is what i’ve seen happen a few times recently when the teams are so badly stacked. That being that the defense starts attacking, you end up with one long spawn camp, and then the server clears.

If that happens, and it’s likely it will, I wouldn’t like to see players discouraged by being penalised for rage /quit, as that will stop them coming back completely and is just penalising the players for bad design. Instant game fail. Unfortunately i’m not sure what other solution there is without going into another lengthy diatribe about the game in general

I believe this is how CSGO handles it;

1st infraction: 30min.
2nd infraction: 2 hours.
3rd infraction: 24 hours
4th infraction: 7 days

I think after a week since your last abandon your clock might reset (not exactly sure how that works which each infraction level).

The downside of doing this with DB is that it is a free game, so you can just go make a new account and play MM again (without your levels/gear, of course).

I’m looking forward to ranked match making to resolve most immediate retention issues. Playing pugs tends to be much less frustrating for me and I think with completely even skill levels it would be even better. This means no more pub stomp for ole spookipants though. I wouldn’t be surprised if steam launch comes with live match making, but let’s just hope we have enough players to populate it.
free rotations usually cripple things. (look at quakelive map rotation idiotic system - killed the game for non subscribers.)

be more gentle with players.
You don’t speak for all QL players, I actually perfer the rotation.

(Glottis-3D) #45

well a good rotation is good. but they put obviously non-duel maps into duel rotation. and with no vote for casuals - it is very frustrating. you see tonns of empty servers with idiotic non duel maps on them. and some servers with running duels on nice maps, join them, wait until a duel is finished, and then BOOM! 2 casuals go straight to an idiotic map and both leave the server.

the only thing that saves it for casuals are pro subscribers, who spawn servers for all players. i do it my self sometimes. but it is like 10 servers, not very much

I love being a pub star trust me! There just something about not caring and going after you, Pixel and SD players over an over trying to piss you guys off.

I am pumped for the Ranked Match Making and a huge player base. But as I stated above even “Match Making” can have some wild swings in skill. The last gather we did team on paper looked fairly even but we beat you every match. However you did say something like I am down for whatever and even a good old fashion ass kicking as long is its close or something like that…

You are 100% correct that Ranked Play “might” change my play style… I play totally different in gathers and I am not running off rambo’ing. However once I get more comfortable with the game and depending on my teams skill I might still revert back to this play style… In all the clans I have played for I was never the best shot but I was one of the most frustrating people to play against based on my spam and annoying tactics. Situational play, support, spam and down right annoying play gets people worked up and throws off their game…

With all that said what the fun in playing a Ranked Match if you aren’t getting any kills… That last gather actually got boring for me at times because I was either sitting back sniping in support or by myself in a window as arty spamming spawn and adding to a crossfire… I guess it was sort of the same in ET but there you had or it felt like more wide open crossfires and your team was always a stone throw away to help out of pick you up. DB feels like you are on an island even if you are across the street.

I can tell you one more thing is people will also grab the most OP class and go with that… Again you and Potty always go to Fragger if the push is slow or you need to break a defense. I honestly do not think there is anything wrong with this (right now) but when we start to get a large sample size of 5v5 games of people really trying to win then we might see 5 fraggers lol!!

MAYBE, SD can also come up with a reward system that gives XP, credits, crates or whatever bases on time completed? If you crush a team in a ranked game or Full hold a team you should get more stuff…

Prophett this is an interesting idea. I did not know that CS did this… What about disconnects? Quitting is one thing but getting disconnected is another… LOL put in a reconnect which works fairly well…

To you point about the F2P this is on steam now… People might be less willing to give up their steam ID or name to keep recreating accounts to troll…

I still like a system of 5 FF kills and you are kicked OR it brings up a menu in game that allows the team to say yes kick… Sort of like an automated vote kick… Because 5 FF kills even if you are not trying to kill your team is possible!

I also like the idea of a SUB or Fill in button… This would allow for someone to enter a game where a person dropped out and SUB that match but not get dinged for losing as much as a normal loss… Great reward for sub with XP, Credit and Crates but less reward for a loss and win… Might go into a SUB win or loss category… A screen will pop up saying do you want to sub in this ranked match… You can kick yes or no…

If you click yes and you team losses because you were behind from them only playing 5v4 the first 2 minutes then you get crazy XP or something and the loss doesnt count against your Rank.
-If you yes and you bring your team back into a victory you get the same XP and it counts as a ranked win.
-Basically depends what type of mood you are in… Knowing you will probably loss however you will get the same XP, points or credits as a win why not… If you know you are probably going to loss and really do not want to get spawn camped just click no and wait until a normal match is created…

This could also work as a tag IN system… If you have to go but you are in the middle of a ranked match you can click the SUB bottom which will bring the sub in and automatically kick you at no penalty…

In csgo you have 3 minutes to reconnect before you get a penalty.

That gather was not exactly what I’d call balanced on paper when funk got snuck in and then you swapped meat for red . I still expect a solo rank to be a much different experience since everyone would be around the same skill level, which is not present in a gather (even if teams are ‘balanced’).
