Simple as that![/QUOTE]

This. 10chars

I could really care less what the name was tbh. I don’t really think ET is necessary to put in the name either- would just mislead people.

(Glottis-3D) #43

you are dead wrong.
let me remind you of one little masterpiece cartoon ‘Adventures of Captain Vrungel’:
“How you gonna name your boat - that’s how it will sale.”

name is a lot.

(Loffy) #44

Yep, that name, Enemy Territory, in gaming, is indeed recognizable, and it distinguishes the product from other, similar games. Almost like… a trademark.

(Kendle) #45

I assume the “Enemy Territory” name is owned by Activision / ZeniMax, so SD couldn’t use it even if they wanted to, and even if they could I wouldn’t advise it, the game is not ET and it’s bad enough that many people are going to expect it to be anyway simply due to the fact it’s made by SD.

If you come to this game expecting an ET-esque experience you’re going to be disappointed. If you don’t, or you never played ET in the 1st place, it’s much easier to judge the game on it’s own merits.

Name change is super-irrelevant!

People dont know about DB, xT and what would happen if you change the name again? - Nothing, nobody is calling extraction ET

My 2 cents:

  • Focus on maps
  • Classes
  • Launcher ( Game lobby, friends, ranked games)
  • Clans, eSport in general

I think Dota, LoL, CS:GO show us how important matchmaking and e-Sport features are for an active playerbase and revenue.

First make this a solid game. The marketing should be based around an awesome game and not the other way around.
The current retention is just bad and it cant get worse.

I strongly agree with you, but marketing should start way before the game is ready to build up the anticipation and ensure many players will be there waiting the whole night up in front of their PC to download the game asap. That’s an economic reality.

For me XT is not the most attractive name, each time I said I play Dirty Bomb to my friends they asked me which porno movie it was … I wouldn’t be against a change of name lol. However I would stay away from Enemy Territory, this could mislead players.

(k1ruaa) #48

Rofl. Calling this game Enemy territory won’t make it good and as Inf3rno said, it would actually mislead people a lot. This game is nowhere near ET in it’s current state.

(Protekt1) #49

Quake wars ET wasn’t the same as W:ET. Also expectations change. Most people who played ET back in the day won’t even care about the differences (at least as much as people here). SD probably can’t name it after ET though and I think they maybe would have if they could have

(RasteRayzeR) #50

Lets go for either Enemy Bomb or Dirty Territory

(aowblacky) #51

No! sorry, but extraction has nothing to do with anything of enemy territory!

(shaftz0r) #52

yes nothing at all. just “classes”, obj oriented maps, and splashdamage. other than those things though…

(Protekt1) #53

And quake wars enemy territory was the exact same as wolfenstein enemy territory. Gotcha.

(Erkin31) #54

Quake wars has the essence of ET. Real objectives modes with class system, ID Tech engine + trick jumps, gunfights and long ttk.
Make reference to ET with dirty bomb is only good to mislead the customers.

About the arrival of Exedore, I hope for the game that the fan of Quake (http://www.splashdamage.com/node/359) will influence the gameplay of Dirty Bomb !

Whoops, wrong thread…

lolwut? there was almost nothing about quakewars was anything like et at all. vehicles, strogg, massive maps ectect. idtech4 is one of the worst engines to come out in a long time, there was virtually zero “trickjumping” compared to et, and the ttk is very comparable to Xt. you obviously LOVE quakewars, but think about what your typing before typing it :stuck_out_tongue:

(RasteRayzeR) #57

Have you played ET:QW even once ?

(shaftz0r) #58

i was part of the beta and played it for a few months after release. game was horrendous, as is every game on idtech4. the game wasnt playable until a promod was made, hence why the game was a massive fail. the only reason it even made its money back was because of consoles

(Erkin31) #59

I love ET and i love ETQW. For me, ETQW was a really good sequel of ET.
Id tech 4 is my prefered “next gen” engine (in comparison with Unreal Engine, Source Engine, Cry Engine). Of course, it’s not as perfect as Id tech 3 (Best engine eveeeeeer), but it’s like an id tech 3 lite (and there are trickjumps : Straff jump, ramp jump, little circle jump).

The vehicles and strogg are (good) additions to ET, not a reboot of the gameplay.
And the maps are big, but the objective mode defines a front line and choke points.

The ET fan that i’m found what I waited from a sequel of ET (A game that respect its essence with great innovations).
This is not the case with Dirty Bomb (and its gunfights/ttk are not comparable with ETQW).

(BomBaKlaK) #60

I reinstal ETQW few days ago and yes TTK is much better in ETQW than in “Dirty bomb”.
In “Dirty Bomb” RoF is a bit to high, and TTk is definitely to short, like maps !
