Starcraft II

The latest zerg totally stole the attack of the tyranid’s Lictor in W40K

(tokamak) #82

I had no idea a lictor could do that.

(Apples) #83

Well iirc it was kind of the same attack when I played the real 40K (not the videogame), or the lictor got himself close to the enemy instead of attracting him, cant remember but the rang a bell when I saw it.

(tokamak) #84

The only thing I find a bit of a rip off is the warhound. That thing is essentially a small thor.

(Kl3ppy) #85

Anyone still playing SC2? I started again and it would be cool to train/play a bit

(Humate) #86

So I started playing online and this is generally what I come up against as Protoss.

Terran:
*Reaper opening, Double Starport Cloaked Banshee and 50 billion missile turrets
Bunker Rush Marine/Marauder at natural
One base battlecruisers with mass marinescough

*Occasional Medivac Drop

Zerg:
*6pool
*Early roach bust
*All in counter attacks vs slightest aggression [i dont get these guys]
*Occasional double expand zerg

Protoss:
*4 proxy gate chronoed zealot rush
*Probe Rush

I usually go:
*1gate robo, early observer, early sentry/stalker if I dont scout anything dodgy.
vs Terran I like using psi storm drops and go for Archon/Chargelot with +2attack - so I like macro games vs terran
vs Zerg standard is usually roach with burrow until they get mutas - so immortals/stalkers with blink into phoenix (but usually they gg before that) Sometimes I’ll go phoenix first with +1 so they wont go muta. And the other thing I like is chargelots with +1 warp prism harrass on expos.
vs Protoss - If I want to finish the game relatively early, ill go warp prism zealots with chronnod +1. For longer games Phoenix/Immortal/ BlinkStalker and if im feeling it mothership + mass recall into main.

Whats your nick + id number let’s have some games.

Battle.net has a lot of trouble placing me. I got promoted and demoted four times in this season. I’m really bouncing around on the ladder.

(Humate) #88

Started playing since xmas, so i probably wont be much of a challenge [my mechanics still suck].
I’ll play though, if you can get a game on the sea server.

(tokamak) #89

Name and ID, that or your battle.net mail or facebook.

And don’t worry it’s nothing competitive, just some sparring. I can play really well but most of the time I’m fooling, bluffing and experimenting.

This is about as good as I get in sc2, which isn’t saying much. : /

(tokamak) #92

Well not much to comment on, you did everything just right when it comes to microing them. He was a complete idiot for wasting those mutas, stalkers are practically a hard counter to them. You were floating an awful lot of minerals. Those situations like in the video are excellent to put an expansion, a pylon and some structures up. That or you could bring a probe, place a proxy pylon and warp in more. Such actions are usually more beneficial than saving a stalker.

(Humate) #93

Yeh I had a pylon near the tower, its probably a bit hard to see on the minimap.
Normally I’m not that micro focused, but I knew he would gg after I attacked him. [he may have been on 30 food at the time] In saying that I do enjoy the micro aspect of - high templar / sentry / phoenix / blink stalker.

New strat I was confronted with in PvT

Antiga Shipyard
Terran:
*Heavy contain with crapload of marauders with concussive
*Builds 3 or 4 bunkers at contain
*Builds 3 PROXY rax and a Factory and a Starport
*Builds that motion sensor tower thing and 2 Missile Turrets
*5 or more tanks all sieged up
*And eventually a Ghost Academy

Initially I thought he was going all in, and then I realised he wanted to contain me to expand.
Unfortunately for him I teched up, but also had hidden probes on the map out so I also expanded.
To counter his expansions I went phoenix, and killed off pretty much all his workers and the workers trying to build a base at the gold.

To defend I went double robo with collosus with the upgrade - for some reason he didnt go vikings but medivacs instead.

And to attack I went warp prism with a single immortal and acouple of zealots that went after the structures… until he lifted off.

Used the phoenixes to take out the flying buildings and that eventually prompted him to attack.
He tried to nuke because he knew I wouldn’t move out, but my units survived. He then attacked, and got completely destroyed.

(tokamak) #95

Yeah that’s what I like to do in TvP as well. I go marauder-only and the concussive shields will keep him hidden behind his ramp. When I’m PvT I go 2gate and 1 proxy stargate. Because I’m random the opponent usually walls in which is in my advantage as the first void ray and the first stalkers will manage to burn down his depots and barracks before he gets to respond.

Random is a challenge though. You need to be familiar with 9 matchups instead of 3.

(Humate) #96

I actually tried out your build, its pretty good, works really well.

Had a few games today - one guy tried to 4gate me on shakuras with stalkers which i scouted, so I went 1gate robo into 3gate double robo.

Sentries caught some units with the forcefields while the immortals cleaned up. He then tried to proxy a robo, and brought in some immortals. Same thing again. So he went collosus, but he realised he had to expand. I went warp prism with +1chargelots. He then attacked the front, sentries again saved the day. - Pic .

(Humate) #97

Had some dude, fast tech to dark templar, and dropped it in my base via warp prism on antiga.
Instead of doing my usual build i tried to experiment a bit and went really fast phoenixes so no detection.
As he drops them in my base, he says - “hope you have a good game, let the best man win”
And then he says - “that will be me you ****ing nub” and the DTs went to town on my base.
I had a ninja expansion and a bit of a bank, so I rebuilt the structures pretty much straight away.
Killed all his workers at his main, but he had spread 1 probe to each expansion in case I took out his nexuses
Phoenixes took them out, he went void ray off 5 starports (yes 5), but whats funnier is he went voidray/dt/stalkers when he knew I already had blink stalkers/observer/immortals/phoenixes

Long story short, he got cut he couldnt live up to the trash talk and left the game.

(tokamak) #98

Okay what you need to work at now is recognise timings. DT’s cant come until 7 mins and if its 7 then he’s sacrificed a lot. Most pushes arrive at 5-6 minutes (later being stronger obv).

4gates can be beaten by a 4gate+forge (and thus attack upgrades) or a 3gate robo which gives you enough opportunity to prepare against DT.

You don’t go stargate against protoss, you just don’t. Protoss have heavy air as well as heavy anti air, it just doesnt work out.

Pretty popular is a blink 4gate. It hits later than a normal 4 gate but it gets you around any sentry bull****.

(Humate) #99

Yes I realised I was kinda screwed when I went early phoenix, it didnt feel right. But thats why I did it anyway.
As for the DT thing, I knew he couldnt do **** for a while - which is why he started raging when I stayed in the game.
The phoenixes helped me keep tabs, while I did my own thing.

Tried blink stalker 4 gate on shakuras and a straight up 4gate with observer at ramp on metalopolis.
Won those games easily but it kind of felt cheap.

(tokamak) #100

Haha trust me, there’s no such thing as a cheap tactic in Starcraft. Everything is allowed. I always block the zerg ramp with two barracks before he gets to do anything. It’s fun because nobody does that so they have to improvise a counter on the spot. Most of them fail but the few creative ones wriggle themselves out of my puzzle.

There are only safe and risky tactics.
