Stalingrad FINAL released!

Ok ladies, its finally done! Unless there are any glaring errors, this will be the final version.

Fixes:

  • numerous overlapping brush/visible caulk errors fixed
  • all spawning issues resolved
  • hunkmegs error fixed
  • Stalingrad location on loading map fixed as much as it can be
  • missing textures replaced
  • file size reduced by a few megs
  • standing too close to axis CP while constructing will no longer result in death
  • command posts are now well lit, and no longer show up as dark boxes
  • health/ammo cabinets now show up on command map
  • axis and allied spawns now have descriptions
  • jumping out of the map via the rooftops above the forward spawn is no longer possible
  • snow added!
  • clipping significantly improved

I orignially wanted this map to be a learning experience for myself, but I ended up biting off a bit more than i could chew. This was quite an immense project for my first map, and in the end, i think it turned out pretty well, despite a few factors that im not happy with.

There are a couple little buggies here and there that were pointed out to me after the map was released, but nothing worth doing an entire re-release over :slight_smile:

Looks exelent. Haven’t really played it …just loaded it and flew around a little bit.
Has a really nice feel to it and the buildings look great.

It’s fine if the actual files and directories inside the pk3 have the same capitalization.
Otherwise it will break on any OS that forces uniques filenames based on case (ie. linux).

I love what you have done with the layout and the textures on this map. It really shines of quality. But the problem with the map, after playing it for a while on my server, is that I always find the map to be finished within 5-7 minutes. It might be that the axis doesn’t know what they are supposed to do, but it might also be because simply blowing up things isn’t that hard really. It might have been better if the tanks were closer together, maybe standing next to eachother in a yard where a field ops/engie would have to blow up a construtible barrier. I would also have a tank in the map and have the allies follow the tank to one of the gates. Still, you’ve done one incredible job with textures and architecture.

looks nice, but one error says you are replacing SD textures with modified versions which is a big no no

Bloodwire - your right - that is the fatal flaw of this map, unfortunately. Why a dual objective like oasis works so well is that the routes to both guns are limited - and that you can stand in one area and see and protect both. Unfortunately, thats simply not possible in Stalingrad. The defense has to be split into two to defend both tanks, and when something like that happens its very easy for the allies to concentrate on one tank or the other and easilly overpower the under-staffed defense. I found that the map can be challenging and fun to play if the axis try to hold the choke points (main gate and upper wall) which are in closer proximity to each other than the tanks, rather than defending the tanks themselves, but try to getting a group of pubbers to do that! However, in the end, it cant be fixed on this map, but be sure I wont make an error like this on the next one :slight_smile:

Torchy - im not replacing any SD textures. I added new textures to new folders but I never replaced or edited any SD textures.
