Back in the day when I suffered from the ‘lags’ 
At first I thought it was the soundcard causing it and tried pretty much everything.
Run msinfo32, and check the card doesn’t have any irq conflicts, if it does you can try physically moving it to a different slot.
I’m also using alternative drivers for my SB Audigy, although tricky to understand at first and you don’t get EAX support, I prefer them to creative’s. kX Audio Driver
