Sprinting - Always on option in the menu, with a push to walk option?

First, a request, for a menu option for “always run/sprint”, then a have a bindable button that I could hold too walk temporarily. There is a sprint toggle button, which I use. However it resets on respawn and sometimes seems to turn off when I don’t want it to. A small request, but I see no reason to not have this as an option in game.

Second, I thought it might be good to discuss the strategy of sprinting vs walking and when its best to use each. From reading some opinions on reddit, it seems a lot of people are against the idea of always having sprint on. It seems like a lot of the reasoning behind this is because it takes longer to pull your gun up, so you’re at a disadvantage when going around corners into a fight.

My opinion is that sprinting around corners and 99% of other situations in the game is ideal. I toggle sprint to on when I respawn and never take it off. If I want to move slow to aim and fire quickly (such as in a sniping situation), I just ironsight.

The advantages of always having sprint on are many. You can sprint into a walljump to gain a positional advantage when rounding a corner, surprise people, etc. Moving faster is a huge deal when in a firefight to dodge fire when you aren’t firing yourself. If you have the sprint+reload perk, yet another reason.

Also the firing delay between sprint-firing compared tot walk-firing seems almost negligible. So little that I’d rather have the extra movement speed.

Thoughts?

What game have you been playing? Good luck trying to shoot at people while you’re sprinting. Sprinting is situational, there is no need for devs to waste time on creating an “always sprint” option.

For once the reddit people are correct, even though they usually aren’t.

You’d be at a disadvantage if you came into view of anyone not sprinting.

Games which sprint by default let you shoot while ‘sprinting’. Really it’s more of a fast default move speed with a walk.

That is a Baldrick quality plan right there mate. What happens if you’re outnumbered and outgunned? Then you are the one surprised, except now you are too far away to easily retreat to cover. And if you peeked first, you are hardly gaining an advantage, they know you are there now, and jumping too far out of cover will get you killed unless you quickly kill the other guy first.

And also, you can still do it manually quite easily. I am not against games having lots of options if people want them, but for this game I think they devs have far more important stuff to focus their energy on.

Perma-sprint and iron-sighting for moving slower. Heh.
My thought: Just hold sprint button the most time. Walking is almost as important at sprinting in this game.

Ever take a proxy on the offensive with the shotgun? If you get the jump on them you can definitely take out 2-3 or more people. Sprint-walljump in, drop a mine, start shotgunning heads while continuing to dodge, sprint and walljump. Just one example.

I’m curious to hear other people’s style of play. When and how do you use sprint? Do you use it while in the middle of a firefight? When do you switch between walking and sprinting? Do you ever walljump when in firefights?

Yeah, and I found against good players it can be suicide. And I have killed many a Proxxy who tried the same tactic, because if you are already aiming down a channel and they come rushing in with a long jump, it is pretty easy to land headshots because of their predictable movement path. And because Proxxy has low health, it is usually better to let someone else go in first, because you can die far too easily (and even if you survive being hit, you are now too far from cover to keep yourself alive).

I typically use sprint for flanking and pushing up, but only when I’m sure I wont take a beating in the process. I also use it for long jumping when I want to cover ground quickly and the route allows it, but I hold the button when I need it instead of having it on permanently. The time it takes to raise your weapon when you come out of a sprint is too much of a disadvantage against good players that can lock onto you and kill you before you have a chance to shoot back. I know it is only milliseconds, but it does make a difference.

I always have sprint on. Just stop before you fire by pressing S one time and youre fine. Also, sidestepping cancels sprint and you always sidestep on encounters. Id rather stay mobile and pick my own fights.

I sprint most of the time but stop near corners I know enemies could be at. The time to raise the gun actually matters.
