Sprint?

(Coverop) #1

I have no idea what the F is wrong with the sprint. I mean you wait 1 second to see the model moving faster, while other games has sprint instantly.

In DirtyBomb when you hold SHIFT, first you’ll walk like normal and after that ONE SECOND you’ll start running. This mechanism annoys me and makes sprint useless in several scenarios which leaves me often to death…

I agree that there should not be a delay to sprint.

Also, no delay with side to side movement (meaning strafe left then strafe right, there should not be a stop and slow then switching of direction).

Poll time???

+1 for this

From standing to full sprint speed takes about 0.5s, running to full sprint speed around 0.3s. During this time you are constantly accelerating,

I think we could have the weapon-lower animation kick in a little sooner because currently it doesn’t begin until you reach maximum sprint speed.

(Ashog) #6

Yeah but strafe speed/acceleration is too low now, like everyone said many times before. It’s just not fun, and I doubt that this makes anyone happy apart from rookies who would have a bit easier time aiming at people.

The sprint with a primed grenade is a must - it has been so in every SD game afaik. I will still make a thread about that.

The sprint while jumping needs be added too - currently it is slowing down you so much that after 2 jumps you start to walk, even though sprint is on. This is also no fun.

The sprint situation is my current biggest worry with DB to be honest.

I have been saying this all the time, but almost never got confirmation by anyone else. I complained mainly about the slowdowns, which are simply not fun to play. Glad i see finally some confirmation. Totally +1 to basically everything slowdown related, this goes into so many aspects of the game and i always assumed it was by design and not some bug or anything and will be improved lateron.

My changelog: remove all slowdowns (grenading, knifing, every other, there are too many to count them up) and instant responsiveness of character movement, e.g. in W:ET when you pressed W you were up to full speed in less than 0.05 seconds. I really can’t understand why this is in the game.

I’m not going to say that this game should be like some previous SD game, but honestly, if this game is advertised as “new old school” game, then the amount of “old school” is not enough currently.
Shooting always differed from game to game, so I’m not going to use this argument for that. But the freedom of movement is an absolute must feeling to have in a game that claims to have “old school” elements. All these slow downs and delays in movement completely destroy that feeling. It’s not fun to move around, you can’t just jump through a map (not talking about strafe jumping), you can’t quickly backpedal-crouch in a corner.
I think SD is trying to make a game where you can do “silly” things as little as possible. Where everything looks like it’s “anatomically correct”, and I can respect that, but it completely messes up the movement.

(Ashog) #9

Yeah, for some reason people always forget that these “silly” little things or peculiarities are what makes a game different, special and memorable. But hey, we live in the time of the clones…

(acQu) #10

Little off: even crysis 3 is affected by all the head bob effects on the camera which are intended to create a ‘realistic’ feeling, but imo it is just annoying to play :frowning: Glad DB is not having that, which is positive

Sans moi.

Okay French is obnoxious.

Mouhahahaha ! Fr peoples over here

(ImageOmega) #13

If that’s what it takes, let’s put one up. By Us, I mean you…then I will vote on it. =]

Also, +back speed while we’re at it. I realized last night that I was +backing away from a potential firefight so I could keep my crosshair ready to engage, when I should have actually turned around and sprinted away to safety (+medpack heaven).

(Coverop) #14

Don’t even start about “clones”.
I would pay a lot for Wolfenstein Enemy Territory 2.

(Ashog) #15

By clones I meant the “now time” clonez such as COD/BF/and such. W:ET is not “now time” game. It’s old skool. And dead.

(Mustang) #16

The more frustrating thing is the amount of time it takes to change strafing direction.

(Ashog) #17

I didn’t get to that frustration part yet, was busy with the main sprint strafe frustration part :stuck_out_tongue:

Totally absolutely aggree with this… above great artwork or even nice animation we need freedom and fun in moves !!!
