SplashDamage future and fanbase

So far I think i’ll pass on DB this time, Splash. Still I enjoyed every single SplashDamage productions until this day. W:ET was my first multiplayer teamplay experience ever. Was a blast to me back then  . QW was nice  . Brink got rekt but is still in my heart :o . And DB came, and I’m nowhere. Well it’s in Beta state but it is not taking a direction I like, somehow. I blame nobody, that is not the point of this post.
So I thought “ok, i’ll be back on their next game”, and then came some interrogations from DB to their futur business :

  • Which userbase (target) are they aiming for, truly : old fanbase or newcomers? Both?
  • Why is DB less deep than their previous products? Is it f2p model related? Target related? Or intern choices?
  • If DB is a great success after release, will it confort SD in further f2p business? Would they give up on buy-to-play?
  • If DB is a total failure after release, would they still give f2p model another shot anyway, or would they get back in old recipe (ET, or early DB)?
  • Are they going to stick to Nexon either way? Pros and cons of it?
  • If SD fails with DB, and gives up f2p model, would they still start a new buy-to-play product based on DB ashes? (so basically blaming f2p and not DB itself)
  • What is your feeling about Splashdamage career?

I know it’s hard/impossible to answer some of theses questions right now, but I happened to think about the “after DB” and the studio reputation if it’s a mess or a win.

This might have changed since, but the vipe I got from Paul back in September 2012 was, if DB does not succed, there will not be any Splashdamage. Of course there was no Nexon or any plans of a publisher involved back then.
