Speedrun: Lava

I tried finding the ‘fun maps for the community’ thread that was made a while ago, but I had no luck! :frowning:

I recently finished a funmap for an on-going event for my clan. I made something I call a ‘speedjump’ map.

Speedjumps are like trickjump maps, without the tricks. You do not need adrenaline needles to win the map, you do not need to know how to gamma, zeta, whatever-jump your way through a boring landscape of blocks.
The most advanced jump you’ll need to know, is a crouch-jump, and even that will only be used a couple of times.

The important thing is speed, and timing. The goal is to get to the top of the tower, and use the portal.

Just noticed that lava was some kind…solid.Would have been better to make it like water and to kill you when you’re in.:rolleyes:
Lighting is very good btw.I guess it’s just one surfacelight on lava,it took some time to compile?:eek:

So to finish I wish to just say : thumbs up!

Seeing the animated lava image and then seeing it ingame, I must admit I was a little disappointed.
In your image it looks like there is an explosion going on at the point the fall hits the surface, but ingame the wall just stops and then you have the lava.

But still a cool effect, just could have been cooler :smiley:

As Backsnip3 said the lava needs to move more.
Ran into one bug I think, on the second jump pad I died as I walked onto it and it said (stealth fell to his death) so I presume that the jumppad (trigger) is the same size or bigger then the rock underneath it causing me to fly into it.

Some nice ‘eastereggs’ :smiley:

EDIT: also forgot to mention that the leaves you can see when the map ends are missing the alpha layer (well I think since there was a black ring around them

I had a very short deadline, so trust me, how you saw the animated lava, is actually how I was going to make it. But I had to finish the event for today, and there were many ideas and routes I had to cut out just to make it. There are some bugs, and weird elements I know, but it should be enjoyable I hope :slight_smile:

I will most likely work a bit more with it and add some new elements there too, make it the way it was originally planned to be. However, I think the lava is just perfect as it is. You do not ‘die’ by drowning in lava, that is a hollywood myth. You pretty much disintegrate before even hitting the lava.

And good eyes, I didnt even notice the plants had that black border! Thanks =)

Ye but that’s exactly what I meant,when you get killed by the lava your helmet and your gibs keep there as if they were not disintegrated:D

True, I was thinking of making the lava nonsolid, but there were other, more important things to worry about. Like scripting :smiley:

Though, I wonder how people can set their gun like that (the thompson is sticking out so far, and you can see those two little … well … hm , wings on top)

you can change the gun position in etpro I think. cg_gunx cg_guny and z or something I think.
