Spectators

(Feley) #1

So… I just played 7vs8 game with spectator whole game in spectate mode, what have I realised is that I can’t do anything to put him back or out of the game… We of course lost and we didn’t have bad team…

So there was probably lots of talk about spectators and I don’t want to start new thread, but I feel like I have to.

Anyway, why can not we vote kick spectators? If people who plays Vassili can get vote kicked, why would person who does absolutely nothing but watch (or recording - but he should at least tell us if he is recording or not) be sparred of it  (I mean that Vassili gets a kill or two, but that spectator makes game unfair…)

I didn’t really know what to do, so if there is some way to solve this problem I would be greatful for answer

Yep, pretty bad when people do that in a full server.

You can vote kick spectators, the vote almost always fails though. But I agree, sitting in spectate for a whole game is usually a shitty thing to do.

(Feley) #4

How to do that? I couldn’t really do anything
But you are right I assume other team would just click F2 even if I called vote kick…

Who thought it was a good idea to have spectator take up player slot?

(JesseKomm) #6

It’s hard to tell why people do it, whether they are gathering video evidence, just trying to pick up some tricks, maybe went AFK, or are trying to get on the same team as a friend… I feel like people need to say what it is they are doing, or at least people need to ask more often than just immediately voting to kick spectators.

But yes it really does make the game unfair for the most part, personally whenever I’m spectating it’s just to get on the same team as a friend, and that’s it, usually doesn’t take long fortunately.

Press F5, 1 and then whatever number the spectator is.

The only justifiable reason to sit in spec is to video a suspect hacker.

Ohhhh, LOL, I never press F5 for vote kicking :stuck_out_tongue: I press tab > RMB > LMB on players name > Vote kick… Well that was stupid of me

Also, Thanks!

And that shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.

(Feley) #11

Well that’s only times I spectate… But ok I would allow spectators to record the game for some reasons, but I don’t feel like you should spectate if you are recording and I don’t mind 30 seconds or 1 minute spectating…

It’s a bug in player allocation. I find on even teams , you can’t enter Spectator mode if I can’t go to Spectator mode.

(Atherel) #13

This! Why not allow more players on the server than players in the teams? So people can spectate and there’s still a slot for others to join. Or you can join a “full” server and wait for a free slot, e.g. to play with a friend.

(Ghosthree3) #14

Players have been taking up slots as spectators for a loong time. Most games do not have it done differently. It’s not exactly shocking.

The fact it’s built on UE3 probably has a lot to do with it.

The spec was obviously keeping active at the client though or he would have been booted. If you go to spec you’ll be booted pretty quickly if you’re AFK.

And yeah, the only reason why you’d go to spec in a pub is to watch somebody play for one reason or another. On one hand it sucks because they are going to make their team that much worse by playing a person down. On the other they might actually be spectating a person they think is cheating which is much better than simply accusing them of cheating or reporting right away. But that should only take a few minutes at most to confirm.

The whole spectate system needs evaluation for certain.

Likely so that if you are spectating someone for a legitimate reason you can still re-enter the game. Other wise you would start spectating then someone would join the game before you re-enter and you’d be forced to either watch the game and hope some one quits or leave.

I believe at one point spectators will no longer take a player slot, there will likely be limited spec slots
