I’ve been a bit busy to do much recently, but I’m back to modding now :slight_smile:

Here is a newish version of the specops mod:

Only 2 changes:

  • Backstabbing reintroduced for all classes (seeing as nearly everyone thought it should be). CvOps should still be able to limbo a corpse instantly with one stab

  • Anti-air guns added. When constructed, An AA gun prevents enemy fieldops from using air strikes. AA Guns can be destoryed by a satchel charge.

To see the AA Gun in action, load specops_demo in devmap mode. Theres no model or voice effect yet, but you should get the basic idea.

Version 0.2.0 will be released once the map we are developing is ready. It will include an AA gun, as well as some other features (baloons!)

I love the idea of having AA guns prevent airstrikes, briliant. If you need any help modeling a AA gun, or even a web designer i’m available. :slight_smile:

It be great, we can have the AA Guns begin firering into the air, when ever sombody (on the aposing team of course) throws out a smoke signal. It would be even better if we could somhow get the guns to turn toward the 'planes". Obviouly there are none, but since there is an obvious sense of change in direction of the airstrikes, there must be som coordinats that can be used to simulate planes coming from several aproaches. Anyway just an Idea.

btw is it possible for mappers to do similar in normal ET, perhaps using command posts? I’d guess mappers would be more inclined to make maps that work on all mods, or at least be playable in vanilla ET.

As far as I know, its not possible. For AA Guns to work you’ve got to have a way of disabling airstrikes, and thats only possible in code.

Once I have a model for AA guns, ill throw in a text file with the mod telling you how to put one in your map. You can probably work it out from the script if you are so inclined - just think of it as being like a command post.

I do hope there’s sounds telling you the plane(s) have been shot down. Maybe even a plane crash sound?

Atm, its the voice saying theres too many airstrikes. I’m going to change that to a voice saying theres anti-air fire.

Coding a plane crashing into the level is a bit beyond me right now tho :slight_smile:

S. Munkey, you don’t need to code a plane cras but rather just the sound of airplane crashing. Also the AA Gun will require som sounds as well. ah it would be great.

It would be better if you had to shoot the AA gun in the direction of the canister. If it’s shot that way the planes abort.

Usually planes wouldn’t dare go near that area if there was AA defense. Although I suppose they could fire if it gets built while there is currently a canister thrown on the map, and then maybe a crashing noise.

I’m not sure if there is any need for the gun to be manned (as that would require som tricky animating), but yeah Mr_tickles bring up an interesting point. All this will obviouly have to be concidered along with the logistical side of things.

OK, just uploaded a minor revision (didn’t fancy spamming you all with a new thread)

The only difference in 0.1.6 is that now parachute spawn points are available. The axis has one on the specops_demo map if you want a look. Your activate key will free you from the parachute and allow you to drop normally…

As with everything, no models as yet :frowning:

A little suggestion about the AA guns:
May be you can use probabilities.
So a probability of 50% would block half of the airstrikes.
But you never know which of the airstrikes is blocked.
