special SD-radiant buttons

(heeen) #1

i know, how the tree-planter and the brush cleanup works, what the caulk button does, but how do the other butons work and what are they for?
patch-merging doesn’t seem to work at all…

(damocles) #2

Patch merging - select two patch meshes (curves etc) but only two. Press it and they shall be as one!

Doesn’t always work, sometimes the patches aren’t lined up properly or they are rotated in such a way they can’t join easily.

Patch-merging is an amazing tool but you need the patches in a set way before they will merge. If the control points are twisted or back to front then they wil not be merged. Usually its best to create one patch, make a copy, work from that and then merge them.

All the buttons are tools we used in the development of ET. No documentaion is available as we all knew what they did.

/me stares at sock waiting for the end of the sentence
reminds me of

ok, seriously, would you be so kind to reveal us the magic behind “drop entity”, “plot splines” and “camera inspector”?

thx

(damocles) #8

Yeah, reveal drop entity. That one doesn’t seem to do squat, no matter how much I swear at it.

(sock) #9

Edit the tree planting config file and change the models filenames to something more temperate.
c:\Program Files\GtkRadiant\plugins\bt p_ent.txt

“drop entity” works like this: Select the terrain in the top down view, select the entity and then press the “drop entity” button. It was the tool before the tree planter. Only really useful for the odd entity which needs to sit flush on a terrain.

“plot spline” is a lovely tool for checking the “info_train_spline_main” entities are correctly setup. The editor will draw a spline path in the 2d/3d window showing what path the entity will take if following the spline path. Everytime you update the entities you need to press the button again and move around in either 2d/3d window for an update to the line. once the line is drawn it will not be removed until you close/open the editor again.

“Camera Inspector” is a throw back to the RTCW camera system and not used in ET anymore. Was going to be used on the SP element of the game.

Heeen: nice cartoon, one of my favourites.

That’s not what i told you to say :bash:

Select the terrain, then enable tree planting mode, select the entity you want to drop in the 3d view, and then hit the drop button.

(damocles) #11

Ah good, then I’m not going mad  Well, madder.
