Spec in normal games

I was wondering, why it is possible to move to spectator in normal games. I had some cases where people move to spectator in order to not be kicked from the server because they’re afk. Also they’re steal server slots which could be used by present players.

Because it’s a core-game feature.

Sure it is. But that does not explain my question.

It pretty much does. It allows you to move into spectator mode because spectator mode is a core-feature.
Also how do people move into spectator mode if they’re afk in the first place? And if they moved into spectator, how can you be sure they doing it because they’re afk? Spectators can’t chat, and maybe he is spectating a player for a reason. You can’t know that unless someone explicitly states he is going into spectator mode to be afk.
The server slot is also a core-mechanic. If they would not take a slot and someone could join, what happens to the spectator? Does he have to wait until someone leaves?
If I join spec mode to record a cheater, should I not have the right to join the game again, because you don’t like me spectating someone?
P.S. You can call a vote on the spectator. I got voted 3 times already when I used to record cheaters.

I wish spectators didn’t take up a slot on the server list. It can create unbalanced games. D: But as you said, it’s also unfair if the person is recording a cheater or something. Also, spectators were able to chat at one time. What happened to this? I don’t remember seeing it in update notes. A month or two ago, I was able to chat in spectator mode.

I’ve never been able to call a vote on a spectator unless I called it before they went into spectator mode. Do you know how to do this? I’m guessing that instead of vote-kicking from the scoreboard, I would need to hit Esc, and then do the vote-kick from there? I’m just curious. :stuck_out_tongue:

Afaik you must start the kickvote with the console. But I don’t know the command.

Spectator occupying player slot is a ridiculous idea, there should be observer slots for that purpose.

I agree with you. But if you have special observer slots, there’s always a chance, that somebody tells one team the positions of the other team. Of course this can happen now, too.
