spawntimer
No way, I really like to know, that way I know if I’m getting any better and if they’re low then I don’t feel so bad knowing it was a close fight and I might come off on top next time.

It helps to get a feeling for how the balance of different weapons is also and is a nice compromise to not showing the enemy health bar permanently.
Perhaps it could be something that is a server config? I see it being fun for Pubs, but competitively it would not make sense to have the Intel/information unless you are a specific class IMO.

Exactly. How did I die? Who killed me and how did that happen? How close was I to not being killed?

(nailzor) #63

This is something I’d watch a demo to find out, not have the intel on hand while in a competitive game.

It is giving too much information to opposing teams, I know it is 2013 and games are a candy coated version of what we all may have grown up with. I can think of numerous NES games I never beat because they were so hard. But just because games are easier than they used to be, it should not be so easy that we are giving away information like this.

This is why the game needs to appeal to masses, for Pub that feature could be fine - for competition it would be laughed at and made a mockery of.

I wonder how we ever got by with x killed y in W:ET

You don’t want any death info then? Option to disable it? Spawn timer on/off option too? Server or client, or mode specific?

(nailzor) #66

Strictly speaking to the competitive side of things yes sir!

(Nail) #67

options/toggles are always good

(Jonny_Hex) #68

Duly noted.

Agreed.

(LeeStyle) #69

That’s pretty funny, you said competitive; good joke.

(Rex) #70

Yeah a toggle would be indeed the best!
The death info from the comp point of view is only sometimes useful, for example when you want to see the postion of a hidden enemy. But most of the time spectating your mates is crucial, as you also get a lot of information where your opponent is at the moment and what’s happening to your team.

I believe Nailzor would prefer the toggle to be off for competitive mode (however you guys decide to approach that) and on for pub servers. Competitively, I would rather have the information as that assists my team but I can see where Nailzor is coming from. If you make it an on/off toggle for competitive play you might as well just leave it on because I couldn’t see a real competitive team turning it off for a match. Too important.

(Humate) #72

I guess we could maybe (assuming there are no code issues) try doing a first person spec POV of teammates should your corpse be gibbed, but changing POV for what is likely to be a short period, and still showing death info, well the whole thing could start to become a lumpy usability and UI nightmare

Its not possible for these two things to co-exist via toggle?
I would prefer to spectate team-mates over knowing how I died.

(Nail) #73

for comp I believe options should be server side

(zeroooo) #74

Server restricted! we need server restrictions for comp, also for all this mercs and so on, for comp i think we really.need serversided restrcitions

(Seanza) #75

Ideally we want a game so well-balanced that we don’t need any server restrictions at all.

(zeroooo) #76

Ideally, yes

Ideally we would also have strafejumps and trickjumps in the game

Btt, iam not sure if everything works fine for comp if you have no restrictions at all, if.the game doesnt support server sided restrictions, than the leagues theirself will do restrictions i guess.

Spawn timer on HUD — Yes, always.

Death Ghosts with info about how you died — server side toggle. Would be AWESOME if it was enabled in demo playback and to spectators regardless of server settings.

Spectating teammates while dead — only when gibbed. Should be a server side toggle as well.

The info about who killed you and how is VERY cool. But I agree that it gives too much information for a competitive environment. I don’t think it’s fair to be able to tell exactly how much health your enemy has. It would be EXTREMELY cool if that information was available for review after the match or to live spectators. Going back and reviewing demos with that level of information could be awesome.

(Ashog) #79

Why not? Everyone has regen anyways, so by the time you get there he’ll be much healthier

Couldn’t agree more spawn time is a key component to a strategy related game lol this
