Spawntime annunciation?

Works fine for me and some of the others, but It seems to mess up for players on certain systems/setups etc.
We used Heron a few times but now we usually just remember the spawn times since allies is usually 20 and axis 30, It’s not hard to workout.

Enemy spanw scripts are legal in US leagues. EoK back in the day used Herons external timer in TWL and CAL… along with just about every other clan that played. Here’s a link to a standard enemy spawn script for RTCW (from what ive seen, 90% of RTCW scripts work in ET)

Hop on over to chiffriermaschinen, scroll down and get Schemes Spawn Timer. All internal and cfg run.

The reply i got from my TWL admin was that, basically, the same thing can be done by having a guy sit next to a player with a bunch of binds and a stopwatch, hitting the binds while the other plays. Thus: not justifiably policeable.

lol how annoying would that be to have a mate keep putting his hand over the keyboard and press a button every 20-30 seconds

Why cant a player do this? It aint hard to count in your head and keep a close eye on the timer? We can do it with health, xp and ammo counters… why not the timer? :stuck_out_tongue:

heron 4 et does work, it doesnt for me it counts down 30 seconds like it would 10 but for everyone else who has it it works, and it can be disabled by the server admin

Confused

How can server admins disable it? Its a client side, outside ET program? Afaik doesnt it work on key presses outside of ET and not internal configs etc so not as if a CVar can be change to disable it? Unless im wrong?

I’ve only installed Heron4ET then upon reading exactly what it does I didnt even bother running it cos I know I dont need it/wont use it when I just count in my head… used to do same with Gren Timers… :]

Heron has a cvar that allows it to be disabled server side.

Added cvar check possibility to allow punkbuster to kick for using Heron [NEW - BETA]
CL_HERON is set to “1” when timer is enabled
CL_HERONVERSION is set to the version active

If server admins want to disallow Heron to be used on their server, add this is the cvar check to the config:
pb_sv_cvar cl_heron in 0

I don’t use spawntimers either because you can easily remember 2-3 numbers in your head. But I must admit even then Heron is usefull because you can let it announce at any time how much time there’s left to enemy spawn. Which is easier than calculating a substraction from a backward counting timer :slight_smile:

Concerning this thread,

about heron : on my computer it is not efficient, because of a lag between its clock
and the ingame clock, every minit, a small lag appears (~ 2 sec) , and after
3 or 4 respawns, the 2 clocks are completly asynchronous.

about timers : I don’t like timers, because they give the ability to bad players to kill massively at respawn.
Is it possible to a server administrator, to be sure to make timers totally useless ?

I think to a simple solution : introduce some randomness in the respawn times ,
2 sec around 20 : 20 , 19 , 22 , 18 , etc …
2 sec around 30 : 31 , 32 , 28 , 30 , etc …
