Spawn waves and spawn times. Part 19

(rookie1) #21

there could be some kind of side obj that could affect the other team spawn time (base like the forward spawn)
get one and you force the other team to wait x more time in spawn to a max of secs

edit : At least its would be something you worked for not a default punishment to one side
I really hope so. Maybe we are just missing you’re timeline. And I really have no idea how to make a game.
I can only say how it feels atm and SD can see how many alpha testers you are loosing… So something surely isn’t going right
We know it’s not perfect dude, but that is the nature of a game that isn’t finished. We hope those folks that don’t like it right now will still try the game at open beta, when many changes have happened and balance has had much more attention

(MrFunkyFunk) #23

There should be a sticky telling us what to direct feedback at, during specific periods of your set/estimated timeline or certain game content.
It would spare you & us a lot of unnecessary drama

When the balance issues are adressed, I completely agree with Potty’s original post.

(Anti) #24

Potty’s feedback is good, no problems with it, just letting folks who feel this kind of stuff has been ignored that it will change, it’s just not top priority right now

(prophett) #25

Agree with Potty.
Things have to come in order. The balance of this game will change and improve very rapidly in the last few months before release, when it should.
This is somewhat reassuring and I think this will be true (to an extent). I just hope that the major problem areas everyone has been voicing their opinion on for months are ALL addressed before release. Historically there has always been 1-2 game breakers which take too long to be implemented and it kills the player base.

(Hundopercent) #26

I disagree. This is definitely one of the bigger problems right now. That’s why instead of coming in waves people trickle in in 1, 2’s, and 3’s. This is what causes you to never have a break to get a health and ammo pack. This is what was also splits the team into pieces making objectives take too long to complete.

I would not put this at the bottom of your list unless you have other ideas we aren’t aware of that can address it (I’m not saying balance the game right now over everything else either.) This falls into the crosshair situation. Is it an absolute need in order to play? No. But it does make the game a hell of a lot more enjoyable to play with it in.

(INF3RN0) #27

^This is very true. It should be made as easy as possible for teams to regroup. This would alter the entire dynamic of the game imo, and possibly solve a lot of the map frustrations. Also when you are able to predict enemy spawn waves, timing attacks become much more informed and less TDM style. I don’t see the appeal of the current system compared to the detrimental effect it has on the overall game play.

^Agree. Proper waves would help a lot.

We know that but the main meaning of the thread was: it is barely playable right now in SW and many people don’t seem to have an urge to play it anymore. It just doesn’t make sense to organize scrims anymore. The whole playing on the closed server is a pain with wrong spawntimes, fullholds, impossibility to skip LB, invisible steps on Camden and constantly lagging and then inevitably crashing servers. From the shoutcasting PoV, also, the spec mode is totally broken. And speccing in its current state isn’t fun anyway, so noone specs.
So the point of this thread is (and I know it because I was on the teamspeak with potty and others yesterday) - it is really hightime to change spawn times and waves because even most dedicated people start to alienate. Hell, take a biggest optimist in the world and let him bash his head to the concrete wall of the last Camden objective for 4 months and he’ll eventually give up. Sorry but this is the current state of affairs, unfortunately.

Edit: I have a suggestion - why not you Anti or some of the devs come and join one of our organized tuesday/saturday nights with joining the teamspeak and playing at least 2 SW maps in a row. You will feel and see many typical things that stand in the way of such matches.

The maps aren’t balanced for comp yet, work on spectator mode has not even really been started, HUD is in flux as we posted recently so it also doesn’t work in spec.

It is great that you folks want to scrim 2-3 times a week right now but that involves touching very incomplete areas of the game, so it won’t be great. For now I’d honestly suggest scrimming less if these unfinished areas of the game cause a lot of frustration and come back to it more often once we’ve worked on them.

As for map rotation, as far as I know potty and seanza still have admin to the comp server, they should be able to skip maps. If this is not the case let me know though.

Finally, I do watch these scrims a lot, from demo, as well as us having recently played one ourselves. Being on vent with you folks won’t help with that, even if it would give you chance to vent

(Mustang) #31

Only Seanza has admin and he’s been awol for several weeks now.

(Anti) #32

OK, I’ll sort out access for a couple more people once I get to the office tomorrow

(potty200) #33

Sean has returned and is on teamspeak now! Damn portugal taking him form us for all this time :frowning:

Appreicate all the replies anti, This was mearly just suggestions I have for competition. I wasn’t expecting a insta fix for them nor disapointed with your replies. Think people have to take note you are making time in your OWN time to reply to threads for now.

As for admin, YES PLEASE! (Plus commands to skip map as I am a noob!)

Shouldn’t pub and comp maps be the same? If you can balance it for competition it will be good for public as well, and I’m a pub player who’s not interested in playing competitive.

Just like starcraft. They balanced it for the pro’s.

Yes, I agree that should be the goal, I phrased that wrong. We’ve not done a detailed balance pass yet which would make the times more suitable for comp (per-objective spawn times). We might yet end up with different times for comp and pub should we not be able to get the balance right, but hopefully we can.

Yes, we understood and have been understanding that all. Thanks for the honest reply. I have no problem with things being not in the pipeline now.

BUT among the things mentioned are a few that can be fixed in no time and easily. For example increasing spawntimes on camden last obj, as well as fixing the very irritating invisible steps on this map. You obviously already work on giving more server admin rights, I suggest also giving it to Funky and Mustang.

AWOL, pfft. 2 weeks of events then 2 weeks of holiday. I played a few times during the first 2 weeks, but YOU were the one who was away
