Spawn camping

(extraordinaryEmperor) #1

Right now, it’s way too easy to spawn camp enemies. The few moments of invulnerability is next to useless when you can just surround your enemies and place key healing stations or out position them since they have no where else to run. Not to mention on maps like Trainyard, where both teams are in the open, it becomes even easier due to abilities like air strikes, artillery and lasers being another option of easily killing the opposing team.

What I recommend is making inaccessible and untargetable areas, i.e. heightened areas, for people to spawn so the opposing team has a clear disadvantage from just waiting outside. Though at the same time, of course you shouldn’t make it so that the heightened spawn allows sight of most of map.

Solving spawn camping that way doesn’t work, they’ll just camp right outside those areas. What fun is there in running an extra few seconds?

The only solution to spawn camping is getting better at the game. If all you do is run out, get killed, rinse repeat, eventually you will get held down more and more no matter what.

Spawn camping is and never has been a gameplay or balance issue. It’s a learn to play issue.

Jurma, how does one fight an entire team? Whenever I get spawn camped, I manage to get one or two kills whenever my spawn, but my teammates just die and I die because of the overwhelming incoming damage and the lack of safety retreat. It’s no longer about skill.

Also, have you ever even played Trainyard? You sound like a lvl 7 telling how bad everyone is when they’re near the bottom of the scoreboard.

Maybe you personally aren’t that bad, but your teammates are. I’m not saying that YOU must be a bad player if you are spawn camped, I’ve had it happen to me too from the same thing you’re saying: teammates literally get owned right away and do nothing, then you get Nv1’d.

It just happens sometimes, but the problem is from a lack of skill. Whether it’s a few people, yourself, the whole team, the whole team besides you, whatever. The point is, it’s a skill issue.

When one team is a lot better than the other, spawn camping can happen. There’s no real way to design the game to make this impossible to happen without making skill a non-factor for the entire game.

You could extend the invulnerability, you could make some areas physically inaccessible with invisible walls, whatever. But why water the game down just to avoid a rare occurrence that is only caused by skill disparity?

Like I said, it’s not a gameplay/balance/design issue. It’s a skill issue, which is completely out of SD’s/Nexon’s control. The only way they can “fix” that is to make their game take zero skill and for skill to have zero impact on the gameplay, which would make for a terrible game.

The higher spawn is meant to allow you the chance to fight from a more advantageous spot. It gives newer people a chance to ready themselves and to fight from a safer spot since they won’t be surrounded, and if they go down someone else can revive them with near impunity. When spawn camping occurs, people leave after a short while and then you’re just stuck in that state basically until the timer runs out.

Take tf2 for example. Sure, you can spawn camp there despite the safe haven, but you have a better fighting chance because of supply closet and the ability to build up ubercharge with impunity for a massive breakout. Dirty bomb doesn’t allow this, once a couple of rhino has settled down with a med station or two around, you’re basically done for because you won’t be able to take them all down and gib them at the same time.

They have max level 5 servers to ease in noobs. Spawn camping isn’t an issue SD/Nexon can “fix” without watering the game down, sorry.

How is it even remotely watering down the game? And I feel like they should bump up the MAX levels to 8.

What I’ve seen, spawn camping is usually cause by the team being too passive and letting the enemy to move the ball into your spawn.
Next time you get spawn camped, suggest your team to provide pineapples and Molotov bread baskets to your enemy.

(IcySkyz) #11

spawn camping is done cause if the opposite team completes the first objective in the first 2 min, half the players on your team will probably leave they don’t want to try

(Jostabeere) #12

Legit mechanic as defenders. get over it. Nuke them. Nade them. Stickybomb them.

Spawn camping usually lies in the team’s fault. There is a reason you don’t see good teams spawn camp each other. It is player skill, not map design.
