Spawn camping is still a MAJOR problem

(flameChicken) #1

I have lost too many matches because of this, it is just unsportsmanlike since there is no real system to prevent this. Please devs, please do something about this.

(Runeforce) #2

Spawncamping is not unsportsmanlike conduct, trolling while doing it is.

A lot of this is bad map design. For one example look at how many different angles the defenders have on attacker’s initial spawn in Trainyard. It’s a nightmare.

Initial attacker spawn on Chapel is still just a box with two exits that lead to the same area that is overlooked by a machine gun. The alternate route to the machine gun is a narrow corridor.

Attackers on Terminal have to defend the pump and attack the obj at the same time or they end up getting boxed into spawn and (like Chapel) have to contend with a machine gun bearing down on their only avenue of attack.

Chapel is a horrible map to begin with… the fact that is very hard to get out of the first spawn as attacking force needs to be rectified.

Considering that every single spawn on every single map can be entered, tells us that SD likes spawncamping (or atleast thinks it’s a valid tactic).

I mean look at the Chaple changes sure they removed the ability to walljump in. But instead added Stairs for easier (but delayed) access.

Also I said it before. Spawncamping in this game is a clear indicator that your team is doing something tremendously wrong or the skill gap is too high. More specificaly you are too passive. If a team constantly contests the objective even if they loose every fight the opposing team can’t afford spawncamping.

Problem is alot of people aproach the objective more cautious after they get killed, so this time they get killed even before they reach the objective. So they aproach the spot they got killed more cautious again… this way they get pushed back more and more till the spawn is the only option.

Mapdesign doesn’t change that fact. Instead of getting constantly killed in the spawn you get constantly killed at the point the enemy sees you first.

What I’m trying to say is. If you are on offense you have to play offensive.

I agree on what you said… but it does not help especially when you hotjoin a losing team that is constantly getting spawn killed, it’s not fun. SD really likes spawncamping do they?

(kittz0r) #7

You guys obviously played any SD before (example RTCW/ET) and for example Trainyard… there are so manny ways to get out of spawn…

the other Team is mostly just better, deal with it

(avidCow) #8

I’m not sure how to parse that post. I played RTCW a lot and played in a clan at an above average level. Spawn camping is harder in RTCW and there was more risk generally.

then switch to CoD or some other Game… you are protected for few seconds on Spawn/Revives…

(triteTongs) #10

Is it bad that I’ve never gotten spawncamped before?
I think it happened ONCE but I can’t even remember. I’m talking about getting shot right after spawning over and over again.

Having the enemy team be pushed up so far is actually a GOOD thing if you are going for the objectives. This lets you flank behind everyone and easily repair the EV or plant the bomb.

That’s why I have no idea why this is such a big deal for so many people. I get spawncamped more in TF2 than in Dirty Bomb.

Maybe on future maps they could incorporate a more walled off area to spawn at and REALLY give the attacker team plenty of places to get out of.

One or two spawns camped at the first one, yes, happens, but not the whole game.
When this happens either the teams are greatly out of balance, or people just gave up, and are hiding. But to be honest, they seem to be the same people caring for kd and staying away from the objective because the fire is (should be?) concentrated there.
Givin, you could make the spawns a lil bit better, a lil bit more friendly, but… At some point people will have to learn to swim in the deep water and take it, and stay. Or leave…

(capriciousParsely) #12

Well the problem is that the people getting spawncamped mostly refuses to change up the tactics. The ones “spawncamping” are usually overextending, alone or with 1 other teammate. They are way further than their teammates, but the ones getting camped still go 3 Vassilis and 3 Proxies and never goes together as a team. I’ve seen this countless of times and tbh, Splash Damage can’t fix human stupidity.

Walls might be needed near spawn locations though. People shouldn’t be able to shoot you in the back when you spawn; that I agree with.

(reliableTortoise) #13

i played quite a few underground games where my team as defenders were literally 4/8 proxy dropping mines at the choke points outside their spawn… its was a bloodbath…
