Just a few frugs from the DBN OpenCup #2 weekend. Inb4 TAG nerf rant :stroggbanana:.

I think part of the problem is the revivr is the only weapon that prefires. Most of the time Sparks runs with the gun fully charge ready to release at any moment. Turn the corner, bam. Cut down on the battery life and she won’t run around all the time with it fully charged.

(mccrorie) #3

Just like pre bug-fix Sparks. The trade off was so obvious I’m genuinely surprised it was a “bug”.

Increasing the difficulty of use at the lower end of the skill curve is not a good way to balance, so no decreasing battery life is not how to improve things.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to INF3RN0 again.

Sparks is broke… as you state.

She is the best sniper in the game.

Delayed Hit or Delayed Tracer (laser) Animation makes you second guess yourself. Even in your video you double pump to see if you actually killed someone. Looks like a fire and forget weapon…

Super frustrating to play against especially if a person is popping headshots.

I have also heard of marcos being used to charge the gun and fire which is totally unfair.

Overall great video

For me spark is still OP, and macro make her more OP … (I know some people using it) , 100% instant health revive with the revivr is way to much, and finally not really fun to play

Watching this makes me sad that I don’t have the steady hands, sharp eye sight, and swift reaction time of my 20s anymore. :frowning: Getting old sucks. Anyhow, good video.

I honestly think sparks needs tweeking. With the changes to snipers (which I love) you make the revive gun 100 times better at range than a sniper rifle :S And I am not TAG

(Smooth) #10

Any thoughts on that? Some things we could easily look at are how quickly the charge drains or perhaps damage falloff over distance.

(potty200) #11

I am not sure what the answer is to helping reduce her strength at range. As a sniper (Who is not half bad) I struggle against sparks and have completely given up trying to snipe now. I think a fall off damage would be realistic seeing as it is only a lazer type gun. But she needs to have the insta gib from her gun completely removed imo.

Leave the Revivr as a purely reviving tool and remove all damage it causes

(Kl3ppy) #13

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to DarkangelUK again.

I am with DA on this one.

many nerfs exist, sparks suffers from a few issues:

  • high alpha strike charged up shots, and high rof spammy shots
  • amazing revives
  • virtually unlimited battery capacity.

Addressing any one of these things could work wonders already. You could:

  • add falloff damage
  • decrease RoF of spammy shots
  • decrease the amount of HP revivr gives on revives
  • decrease battery capacity/recharge rate

Don’t really want to nerf damage. Imo the biggest culprits are spammy shots and alphastrike charged shots with practically unlimited battery. Sounds like touching the battery is the best bet, as Sparks was hardly as annoying before the patch that fixed the augment.

(DarkangelUK) #16

A medic while using their reviving equipment shouldn’t be mowing down soldiers and out-sniping snipers

(Domipheus) #17

Agree with DA.

A small compromise over the complete denial of damage could be reviver only inflicting damage on downed players.

Honestly, reducing revivr headshot multiplier might work. The biggest problem with sparks is that good players can one shot most mercs with long range headshots, which overshadows actual snipers. However, if you drop her headshot multiplier to 50%, this goes away – a charged headshot will do 97.5 damage and won’t kill a vassili, while vassili can drop her to 5 health with a body shot and one shot her with a headshot. Yeah, that sounds like a fun matchup for sparks.

Short to mid range, she seems much more fair – a fully charged body shot will let you win most duels once you switch to your empire-9, but she is at a massive disadvantage if you miss your one shot. She also has a hard time against multiple opponents, since charging up a second shot takes a while and she has no aoe. That sounds pretty reasonable for a medic.

Her spam dps is already pretty terrible – even with quick charge, uncharged shots deal 20? damage every .32 seconds, which works out to 62.5 dps. For reference, most primaries are in the 120-130 dps range. At long range, the accuracy and lack of dropoff puts spam shots a bit ahead of smgs/ars, but that isn’t saying a ton. Damage dropoff would kill her alpha at long range (read: her main offensive strength) and put her spam dps into the “tickling” category. Yeah, a long range merc that is useless offensively at long range sounds like a good idea.

I agree with Szakalot, adjusting the battery recharge rate is the best choice.

(mccrorie) #20

They nerfed her revives instead of tackling her combat ability. what the hell…
