Hmm, I’ve just had the following idea:
I think it would be a god idea to develop some kind of SP framework.
And everyone who tries to develop a SP “game” could use this framework.
And add characters (models), skins, maps, weapons (models) … according to his / her / their story.
So this framework has to some kind of freeware.

yeah, we make about 20 slots of charaters that people can fill up with there models

Ok, plan is

Name: Wolfenstein Alienated

Type: Mod for SP

Story (i worked hard on this, please tell me wot u think):

2 The year is 2697. Alien races, the Maktas (ill think of a batter name later) and the Jooks (ill get a better name later) have been at war for 17 years. 2 of the leaders meet to form a peace treaty. The Maktas all agree (because they are losing) but some of the Jooks dont want to, They are sent into excile.

  1. One thousand years later the 2 races are in alience. Everything is happy, a supernova at the Maktas’ home means that all there resources need to be pulled to one spot until a new homeworld is found. However, the exciled Jooks are awakend from there prison and take over the Jooks homeworld. And now they are wanting to attack the Maktas’ fleet, with all the resources in 1 spot the cannot call for help. They attack the carrier and the carrier takes heavy damage.

Where you come in:

You are a 26 year old Maktas called Mike Sectus. You are engaed to a woman called Rachel Cannon. You work on the carrier as a level 3 Engineer. level 3 is quite heigh, You have developed a new lazer weapon that needs testing.

The Fateful day when your carrier gets attacked:

You wake up (late as normal) and go to the ship yard, you get on the new test plane with all your colleagues and go. Once you leave and go into hyperspace the enemy Jooks come and attack, the blood, the pain, the carnage, even against 100 year old ships. When you come back you relise your objective. Kill the evil Jook’s leader.

Other tiddlebits:

WE NEED LOTS OF SUPPORT, MODDLERS, MAPPERS, CODERS, EVERYTHING, THIS WILL BE A BIG UNDERTAKING

also i will need very active members, the MOD if all goes well might also have an MP version, it would make the game more popular.

But for the time being i will stay an SP mod, that is the main aim

Agree with nullskillz.

In particular, that lack of BSPC (source is not avialable either) for ET means that AI support will either require a completely new system (ala bobot) or a reverse-engineered bspc. Or some other hackage to make a usable bot navigation for ET. I would suggest that unless you have figured out how to solve the AI problems, there is no real point in planning anything else. Unless you allow switching to a game with SP support (RTCW, for example) as a backup plan.

If you plan to try to get what botcode is in ET to work, be warned that some of it is very likely to be non-functional, since SP was killed in mid development. That certainly might include stuff in the engine, for which source is not available.

we could use the RTCW source and see about its coding and just take then over to ET

the only bumber would be if any of ths stuff we tried was ileagal, then we would be screwed

RTCW SP and MP used different engine executables and game code, so even porting that to ET could be a problem. It would also be illegal, unless you get permission (while the various EULAs are unclear and often contradictory, the intent is clear that modifications should only work with the original product, not other games or demos). Finally, it doesn’t get around the BSPC problem, because RTCW bspc doesn’t understand ET .bsp files (note, I haven’t tested this myself, just repeating something I heard somewhere…).

Teaming up with the bobot people might be a more viable option. Alternatively, a full, from scratch AI system might be a good, fun final project for a CS major.

If we can’t figure out a way to implement AI we could always just make it a multiplayer TC.
The whole distant-future theme gives the coders/models/mappers a lot of room to develop so really cool things :slight_smile:

Hi, i’m pretty new to game modding, and i’m trying to squeeze my way in to the modding community via 3D game modeling. I lack real experince in game moddling but i do have a lot of experience in Interface design (mostly for web use) and since ET is my all time favourit game i’d love to help out in any way i can. Also i have several yers experience in image manipulations (i.e Photoshop) I can provide a porfolio if need be. Anyway i’ be glad to help out in any way possible.

Yeah, I’m on board. The only thing is I can’t do UI coding and I’ve never done AI coding. I can try to do AI coding but I won’t touch the UI code…ever!

ok, im just a mapper looking for a mod team to get some ET SP but wtf is UI scripting? that scripting for the player?

look at the RTCW source and see if you can get the notepad stuff from there

also could the SD people tell me if any of this is illegal, cos i dont wana risk it

Ok, thats fine, but see if you can figure it out, bani who made ET pro can change that its a feature from his MOD, PM him about this topic and see what he has to say, he will know if its possible

Open up an etpro3 pk3 and goto the ui directory. What do you see?
