South AM servers not well set up (worse ping than NA)

(debux) #1

Hey, I don’t know if this is the best subforum to say this, but I just wanted to report that South AM servers don’t seem to be well set up. They register the same ping as any north american server to me (even a bit higher, so I prefer to play on the NA ones). My guess is that it has something to do with how the data is transferred (like the main servers being in another continent, so the “South AM” thing in the name of the server is only in spirit. I remember something similar happening with Heroes and Generals).

Funnily enough, some brazilian dudes don’t seem to have much trouble. In the link that I have added below you can see that the “Pirrad” player is from Brazil and has a decent ping. It’s weird that I, living in the same continent (Chile), have a terrible ping, a lot worse than with NA servers (around 180 ping).

Can this please be looked into? If it’s bit annoying for me to play in NA servers with such bad ping, it must be horrible for NA players who have to face me, when my hitbox and player model don’t match up at all.

Thanks in advance!

They’re not badly set, but it is indeed a problem. The issue is related to where they’re hosted. They are in Brazil, so it really depends on you’re ISP if the connection has a low ping. I’ve seen pings as high as 200 ms in central Chile, and as low as 60 ms in South Chile, even though is farther geographically (with two different ISP). I guess Splash Damage is trying to cover the biggest amount of people, but theyre overseeing the rest of LATAM. They should set a server either in Chile or in Argentina (as the guys of Riot have done) to fix this issue.
