Sound problem

(Pachira) #1

Hi, I am having a sound problem where certain sounds are played either not at all or very silently depending on the position. I had a minigunner fire right next to me and still not hear him. I have a video detailing this problem here:

Any support would be appreciated, thanks!

(Je T´aime) #2

I watched the video, and ye i noticed you could not hear the minigun from the bot from your team, dunno if thats on purpose so you hear better your own gun or not : D, if its a bug im not suprised at all : p

(Pachira) #3

I guess there is no fix then, that sucks.

(Angry Machine) #4

Yet another sound bug…

I have already mentioned it but they freaking don’t care !!!

Seriously SP, fix your engine !!!

I wouldn’t go so far as to say they don’t care. They might be working on a big patch.

(Sanch3z) #6

I noted previously that I thought all sound issues had been fixed and they seemed to be until last night 6/06/11. Was playing the map Refuel and my sound went out for the duration of the match. Sound seemed fine on other maps.

Hey man, yesterday evening all the sound stopped for me, once again.

I tried to disable the “GX” fonction on my xonar but it makes no change, I still have the sound just crashing sometimes, without reasons.

What should I do ? Dunno

Hi Pachira, thanks for posting. Please try the following out as a first measure.

The settings in BRINK inherit exactly from the settings in your Control Panel. Other games use a different API to set up the sound, so will behave independent of your Control Panel settings.

To set up your audio in BRINK, please read the following steps:

For Windows XP / Windows Vista

[ol]
[li]Quit Brink
[/li][li]Go to Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback
[/li][li]Set your preferred playback device as the default
[/li][li]Click Configure and choose your speaker configuration
[/li][li]Click Test and verify that the device you intend to work with Brink is working as expected
[/li][li]If it doesn’t work as expected in the Control Panel, it won’t work as expected in Brink
[/li][li]Once your devices are working as intended, boot Brink
[/li][li]Brink should mimic exactly the settings in Control Panel
[/li][/ol]

For Windows 7

[/li][li]Go to Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback
[/li][li]Set your preferred communications device as the default
[/li][li]Click Configure and choose your speaker configuration
[/li][li]Click Test and verify that the device you intend to work with Brink is working as expected
[/li][li]If it doesn’t work as expected in the Control Panel, it won’t work as expected in Brink.
[/li][li]Once your devices are working as intended, boot Brink
[/li][li]Brink should mimic exactly the settings in Control Panel
[/li][/ol]

If, after following these steps exactly, your sound in BRINK still matches the original post in this thread, please post back and we’ll investigate further.

Didn’t work.

After reviewing the video it looks like two mixers that give a ‘shellshock’ effect are being triggered one after another in quick succession. The ‘shellshock’ effect is totally by design and happens when a grenade goes off near you or when you take a certain amount of damage, or when you take a shot to the head.

In the video the first mixer triggers when you get up from behind cover and get hit, the second hit happens just after. If you watch your health bar in the video you’ll notice how the effects coincide with you taking damage. I’ll look into the possibility that the mixers are somehow multiplying their effects instead of being additive for situations like these.

Can you post a DxDiag and your sound hardware please?

(ragnak) #12

Why wont you remove that “shellshock” effect ? I understand that you tried to do something new but it didnt work, at all.

Almost no one likes it, it makes sound worse and on top of that causing issues, its only smart to remove bad design choices.

I have two speakers on my desktop, they have a headphone jack that I plug my headphones into. I basically just use the speakers so I can increase the volume past defaults for my headphones.
