Sound Pack PK3 Problem

(will808) #1

I’m trying to make a sound pack, and I think I’ve got everything set to go. The problem I have is in packaging the .pk3.

I have rtfm, but still can’t see what I am doing wrong. I’m sure it is a problem with making the pk3 because I have unzipped another soundpack, remade a pk3 out of it, and that won’t work either - even though I haven’t touched anything in it.

I’d really appreciate some pointers as to where I could be going wrong - for some reason it seems that my pk3 is not overriding the default one.

Thanks for any help - I’d really appreciate it

What program are you using for packing the files?
It has been mentioned that there are problems with Winrar.
Search for pakscape.
A little very handy tool for the creation of pk3-files.

Yes I tried pakscape but with no luck yet. Maybe I’m doing something else wrong - is there a decent guide anywhere to sound pack making?

Thanks for the reply.

Your .pk3 must come after the official pk3s in alphabetical order. e.g. z_mysounds.pk3 not a_mysounds.pk3

Also make sure you have ‘hide file extensions of known file types’ turned off in windows. Otherwise you might be ending up with a file named whatever.pk3.zip or something like that.

Make sure that you get the directory layout the same as the example you looked at.

the problem I had once was I zipped the wrong map

C:/mypk3/sounds

you should zip the sounds map and not the mypk3 map if you get what I mean.
if there are more maps just zip them all together, but not the map that is on top of it.

That’s fixed it - thanks a million. One other question - I’m going to add a couple of extra menus. I figured out most of the paramters in the scripts, but I’m not sure about the last two - eg:

QM_MENU_ITEM( "H. Spawn", exec "VoiceChat DacDontTell"; close wm_quickdac, "h", 0 )

In this example it’s the “h” and the 0 that I’m not sure about - I get the feeling I’m going to need to know it though

Thanks again.
